Instead of injecting spores directly into the jar can i throw in a few pieces of colonized popcorn? Also is the airport syringe absolutely necessary? or can i just make a nail hole in the top of the jar and stuff it with pollyfill like a PF? |

Adding a few kernals of colonized popcorn to freshly made jars is called g2g or grain to grain txfer. Click the highlighted text for a better description. If at all possible the g2g needs to be done in a sterile environment such as a glovebox or flow hood. No need for an airport syr if your doing g2g. The purpose of an airport is not only to allow filtered air entry into an lc jar, but also to eliminate the suction caused when attempting to draw up the lc into a syr or injecting your spores into the lc initially. |

no g2g as the name indicates it is a transfer whit colonized grain to another grain uncolonized...to do a LC use spores (hydrated or not hydrated )or a small piece of tissue from a nice cluster (cloning). If you use grain to try to colonize LC at same point it will rot and spoil the lc... jope i clear the doubt

not a good idea to plop colonized kernels into an LC... Airports are, IMO, very much a necessity for a LC. Especially if you want to keep it for a while.

Ahh sorry misunderstood question ST. You can use a bit of mycelium, scraped from a pcorn kernal to start your lc. Again do this as sterile as possible. Or its possible to leave several kernals in a jar, inject some sterile water, shake, and suck up the myc water back into syr. Then Use that to start your lc. Several options there. I literally take a few jars - make up a 5% Honey Solution and microwave the crap out of it so it reduces by 1/3 - let it cool - then innoculate with about 1cc of spore solution (dont see why you couldnt use grain though - just harder to get it in without contams getting in also). See results within a week - by about 2 weeks you can tell if its contams or myc then let it grow a bit more and store it in the fridge and just innoculate as you please with it |

Myself and another guy over at the shroomery are tryng an experiment ... You could give it a bash ... Suck up some sterilised LC solution preparation into your nearly empty syringe ( the nutrient solution pre colonisation ) - leaving a (sterile) airbubble for shaking & aeration. That way you'll be able to turn 2ml spore-water into 20ml worth of mycelium. You'll need to use it before it gets too thick & clogs your needle - and be sure to use 18gauge or lower (fatter). Use the mycelium syringe to make up a grain or corn jar, and then do the extraction of mycelial water as recommended in the earlier post. Mycelial water is virtually guaranteed contamination free if you make it from a cleanly colonised healthy jar ... whereas LCs always contain a contam risk / unknown element. Mycelial water keeps well in the fridge ... no nutes for contam to munch on ... longer than LC. My 2ml worth.
