![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Aged Horse Manure?
I have been looking through CraigsList and have found a few local Hpoo providers, but am curious on what I should be looking for. I have read here that I want aged Hpoo w/o hard wood chips or sawdust. Does the age of the manure make a huge difference? Should I let it dry if it's really THAT fresh? It's not like I want to deal with fresh Hpoo... ![]() Is there anything specifically that I should be looking for? It seems as if a little bit of dry manure would go a long way, especially since I will have to mix it with straw. Should I plan on getting as much as I can load up? How should manure be stored if not used immediately? Also, how could straw be stored? Just kept dry?

you want the poo to be naturally field aged. you dont want stable sweepings as this will be piss drenched and often contain woodchips which can act as a fungicide in some cases. just not great stuff. i live in a rural area so i can go out and pick up the nice bleached dry nuggets from the fields round my house. if you only have access to fresh poop you can prep it by putting it in a pillow case and running a hose into the case, allow this to rinse for an hour, squash the water out of it and set it on a black bin liner in a greenhouse or poly tunnel to dry. poo prepared in this way will be inferior in nutrient content to nice crispy field aged horse shite that can be ground into dust with ones hand. i always mix straw with poo for subs, i like a mix of 50% coir to about 30% poo and 20% straw. if i only had access to stable sweepings i would however just use straw and coir. hope that helps edit: forgot to mention, for storage, i dry the poo out 100% and leave in black bin bags in a greenhouse mixed with chopped straw, i hydrate this after adding it to the coir.
