![]() | Getting started soon, but going on vacation...
So I'm planning on starting some PF tek jars soon (brown rice flour/vermiculate) but I'm also getting ready to go on vacation... I've just ordered my spores (which are Colombian strain) which should be here sometime next week. I'm leaving for vacation starting July 11th... I'll be colonizing the jars in my basement. I've got some shelves down there that I'm going to give a really good clean, then line with black trash bags to make a "cabinet" deal.. I'll place the jars in there with another trash bag flap to act as a door. There should be enough air to get in for adequate gas exchange. My basement normally stays around 75 degrees on most days, though it's gotten cooler these past few days and as dropped as low as 68. I'm not too worried though, cause I know the jars will still colonize even at cooler temps.. Should never get above 80, even on really hot days. I'm wanting to start the jars so that by the time I get back, which will be on July 19th, my jars will be either ready or close to ready. So when should I start them? Would three weeks before I get back be okay? My roommate will still be here, so I'm going to have him check on them every once in a while, tossing any if there's green mold in them, and marking the date in which jars are 100% colonized on the outside, so that I will know how far along they are since I'm going to give them at least a full week after they've fully colonized so that the inside of the cakes will be colonized as well. So yeah, when would be a good day to inoculate and beging the colonization process? Thanks bucnhes! |

If I inoculate them asap and I wait until I come back from vacation, that could be around 5 weeks.. what happens if they're ready to go just as I'm leaving for vacation, do I just leave them for another week? (I know you leave them in about 1 week after they've fully colonized the outside of the jar)
