![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Bagged Cow manure compost and Thia Lipa Yai
Well the title really says it all, I found a bag of this stuff at a local store chain and decided to give it a try, as I have had bad luck with composted stuff in the past, especially black cow. So I seen this at this store and it says its 100% composted cowmanure so I figured why not, had a good price so I snagged it up to experiment and test its viability and even if it fails hey can always use it in my plants. THE SUB The sub consists of 1 quart chopped straw 1/2 quart fine verm 1 quart quart Bag composted cow manure It was mixed together dry, then placed in a pillow case. After this the pressure cooker was heated up to boiling, then all heat was shut off and and left to cool for 20 or so minutes, then the sub was placed inside, lid was placed on and weight was placed ontop, then left to sit over night, the next morning the pillowcase and sub were hung outside to dry, once outside of pillow case was fairly dry to the touch, it was spawned and this is after 30 hours. SPAWN 1 Quart TLY spawn "Popcorn" INCUBATOR/temp Incubated in a TiT at 78 degrees F ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

no side pins as its covered in black plastic was removed for pics LOL and its only 4 inches deep but, very airy, verm and straw helps with that.

Good call going with a high spawn/sub ratio of 1:2.5. I'm glad to see that the store bought manure is seeming to work out so far. I hope that the end product is plentiful. It will be nice to know that you have a local and easy source of cow manure for future use. Cool

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hasn't given me a problem yet. although im only using a very small amount. ive seen grows off str8 up 1 brick coir/ 1 quart verm/ 1 quart spent coffee grounds with great success. not sure how good it is in later flushes though. but they said their colonization time was 7 days. that may be because the subs were a bigger volume but even with 2 quarts spawn. im averaging 3 days max on substrate spawn runs with a little bit of coffee in it. i just add a tiny bit and it doesn't effect anything other than make the subs colonize like they are on roids. maybe its in combination with the supercake formula. maybe it works together who knows. the yield isn't any better or worse either. i have no idea why. maybe the caffeine shoots the mycelia into hyperdrive. discussion on it here. http://forums.mycotopia.net/group.ph...iscussionid=35

well this is day 3 and it seems to be doing well, I give it a couple more days and it will be ready for the FC, but, I will give it 7 to make sure its nice and ready to fruit, Very very nice rhizomorphic growth from this spawn and sub, perhaps it might turn out to be a good sub, we shall see. ![]()

Awesome work so far, as usual. What brand was that manure? I too have tried Black Cow and could only get one flush out of it, and it had to be majorly leeched first.

Wow. That is very impressive colonization. I've got two tubs upstairs that are my first attempt at jars to poo. My recipe: 40% horse poo, 40% coir, 20% chopped straw. Can't wait to see the fruits of your labors... |

Why challenge yourself the first time around with the unknown contents of bagged cow shit, urine, steroids, antibiotics, and what ever else may be used on dairy cattle or feedlot cattle. Just my 2 cents... btw Nice thread Irishlion! Looks like you are on the road to success with your lucky bag of shit. Watch out for early contams setting in.

so I could fruit the entire sub. Also so it doesn't touch the perlite as I hydrated it with salt water, saltwater and mushies not good friend LOL.

When you mix salt with the water before hydrating the perlite, it prevents contamns growing in the perlite, and when the H2O evaps the salt stays behind and gives a nice clean chemical free RH. Add as much salt to the water as the water will hold and then hydrate the perlite and you will never have contamns in your perlite and if you wanna reuse the perlite, just rinse and rehydrate same way and all will be well

I imagine you could get bye with less than fully saturated salt water, but why skimp when salt is so cheap. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You weren't cursed cap :P Those are actually from the strain that kicked black mold and triches ass twice... So, agressive heheheScratch during the pinning phase we don't even open the FC aside from taking the occasional picture, If you think about it once it's opened long enough to take the pictures you are letting enough FAE into it. neglect all the way baby. They love it.
