Question If mycelium loves potato water agar & syryp/karo LCs ...

If mycelium loves potato water agar & syryp/karo LCs ...

... then why do we make up BRF etc. jars using plain old water ?

This may be dumb question of the week, but I keep on thinking that it should/could/might/maybe/possibly make sense to start the cakes or grain jjars with something nutritious that makes for fast happy mycelium growth.

Is there an obvious answer to this one that I am missing ?

??

Rich

The obvious answer is that BRF is extremely nutritious, and makes for fast happy mycelium growth :-)

there is something called
too much of a good thing.
in this case
it's sugars.
potato=carbs=sugars
karo=corn syrup=sugars
rice=carbs=sugars.
kinda like with us,
too much sugar at once
is not beneficial
and may even harm.
if you truly want to
fortify your cakes
i suggest using
lake / river water,
from a clean source.
the 'living' natural water
is worthwhile.
stimulates growth.

I was hoping to hear so about such sources of water, but what of the
sterilization process, what's left that is not in tap water after 45 minutes of 15 psi, in the water?

everything that living cells are made of.

thinking so, thought 15 psi was strong enough to erase anything
hmm anyhow it only makes sense to use natural source water, when available

PC'ng at 15 psi will kill organisms, but their fundamental make up will be there in various forms. It is, after all, a pressure cooker, ie. it cooks food. Otherwise pressure cooking a stew (or a jar of mud) would leave you with a puddle of sterile water :-)

Thanks Hipster, I had a feeling in my bones that the reason would be something like this.

I dig the way your response starts off like a Roald Dahl poem ...
