Lime Dunk

How is it to use lime as well as bleach in a log dunk. I usually have terrible contamination problems when I dunk my logs so I thought I'd throw some lime into the water this time. Is there a downside to this?

not sure on the sterilizing properties of lime as far as i know it'll only adjust the acidity or ph of the sub .

also you may make a poisonous gas by mixing lime and bleach, this could cause a very bad chemical reaction that may kill you *be careful*

if bleach doesn't do it nothing will

NO!!!... lime and bleach should NOT be mixed. Nor should you mix bleach with anything acidic. It can cause chemical burns to your lungs as well as your eyes. Similar to mixing with ammonia.

I would recommend doing a google search prior to mixing any chemicals. I would hate to see you become the newest recipient of a Darwin Award

Holy Shit! Thanks for the warning. I had no idea about mixing bleach with lime. I tried it once and it seemed to ward off contamination a bit better than bleach alone. For the future I'll dunk the log in bleach water first, then lime water in a separate container. I'll see if I have any notable results.

Just so I know, am I evolving chlorine gas when I mix bleach and lime?
How can I find out what chemicals not to mix? Is there an online database of chemical interactions?

best rule of thumb is not to mix bleach with anything..
