I just saw this morning that my cakes have started to pins, so i'm ready to put them in my fruiting chamber. But since my roomates are disgusted by mushrooms, I keep them in a rubbermaid box that is totally dark. So, what kind of light should I provide them and how many hours a day. Also, can I dunk my cakes, but not in a fridge?

The light you provide them by checking / fanning / misting daily is enough, although I always like to have at least some light source in there. Battery powered button lights are GREAT for people in your position ![]() You can dunk your cakes right in the jars - I like dunking 1/2 pint cakes in 1 pint jars, personally, but there's a number of creative ways to skin this cake. ![]() soliver |

I was in the dollar store last week and saw these little LED sticky lights for the insides of cabinets etc. Something like that taped to the underside of the rubbermaid lid would provide more than enough light. Or as Soliver suggests, they will be fine with just a few minutes of light per day during regular maintenance.

Soliver is dead on with his advice. My grows get whatever light I feel like giving them when I go to mist and adore them. If you want them all growing in the same direction then light will do that. The advantge in dunking in the refridgerator is that the cold temps hamper contamination. Maybe if you started with cold water and dunked for a shorter time it would be ok, probly will be anyway.
