![]() | i've got piss along bottom of wheat berry grain jar...toss?
i have a full pint size jar with some yellowish piss along bottom of jar and 1 or 2 spots along sides in teh middle. Can i spoon out the white stuff and maybe save the jar or is there probably piss in the middle of the jar as well? Also, this is the second jar i've had that developed piss. They both were winter what berry and boh from the same syringe. I have 6 other syringes going in various tek jars (WWBrry, WBS, brf, cracked corn) with no piss, only these two from the same syringe. Is it a bad syringe or just coincidence with the WWBerry? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | does it look like the pic below? from my own experience I beleive this yellow liquid is produced by the myc as some type of defense or metabolite due to a bacterial infection... I my experience the myc still grows and can fight off the bacteria... i've transferred "contamed" jars to a bulk medium and had them fruit out... however they didn't seem to put out as many fruits as other "uncontamed" jars. good luck oh and as like you stated earlier, i too have only ever had this "yellow piss" when using Rye Last edited by dfar; 07-01-09 at 22:19. Yeah, exactly that color...but not nearly as prevalent as in your pic. Do you spawn that jar right there!? With no problem?!?!?! So it results, at times, from leaving in incubation chamber too long? This one has been going for over a month, but has been ready to spawn for a couple of weeks, but i have no freaking room in inc chamber so i have to wait.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | lol... well no i wouldn't spawn the jar i showed at this point. I'd let it keep colonizing as best it can, the above pics are an extreme example of what can happen (actually i'm kind of debating whether i should sacrifice my bulk materials for such a jar) but your jar has only a little "yellow piss" it should be fine to use it for inoculation of bulk materials IMHO. from my experience it's not from over incubation, but from bacterial contamination... i base this with two observations 1st my jar(s) showed signs of "yellow piss" only weeks into incubation (of which the rye was not fully colonized) 2nd the jar when opened, has a very sweet smell... very telling of a bacterial colonization (kinda smells like week old garbage) it does not smell earthy like normal myc do your jars have poly fill holes for air exchange? If so then sometimes if you smell by them you can distinguish a "sweet" smell coming out of your jars... however if you only have a little yellow than it may smell like natural myc. this has only been my experience and i'm by no means a guru at this stuff. just my .02 |

If you have a fully colonized cake that's been sitting unbirthed for that long, it's going to throw off piss. It's just a sign that the fungus is entering it's next stage of life cycle-- it can't expand anymore so it's getting to work digesting its food. If you have no room in your set up to birth that jar, you should either chuck it in the fridge for now or consider growing invitro in the jar.

with a spoon you can salvage any good mycelia. just stay a good distance away from any nasty looking spots or grain. if it looks like those pics above. it looks like a bit of wetspot. id not g2g any of it.

So i could do invitro w/o planning on doing it from the get-go? What do i do, just expose to light cycle and subject to more FAE?

Invitro doesn't work AS well for grain jars... sometimes the jars will just sit there and dry out, however, if you pop the lid and case it about 1/4 inch with verm, spray it every day or so, you'll (most likely) get shrooms growing in there.. worked for me many times. It's not the best use of a pint of spawn, but if you're lazy, looking to experiment, or have questionable jars, then think about it... ![]() soliver |
