SWIM started his first grow on 6-28, and today found some growth. I've enclosed the pics that he took. 2 of the pics have a definite white fuzz on just a couple seeds. The third however, looks a little creamy and wet on the side. He isn't sure if it's condensation or what. I do apologize for the lack of picture quality as well as the glare. SWIM is using a 2 Meg camera phone... SWIM is growing Hawaiian cubensis on grass seed in ziplock plastic cups. Plans on casing with Miracle-Gro (lol) moisture control potting mix. SWIM was told by FOAF that this stuff works well. Opinions and input are greatly appreciated, and I'll be updating this thread until harvest. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | day 8
So here I am, day 8, and I feel like a gleeful child on Christmas...even though I still have a ways to go... Here are day 8 pics of my cups, with the exact same 2 Meg camera phone... Yesterday, I seen a couple individual kernels colonized, but today, it's like a tumor... Of 10 cups, 2 still show no signs of growth, but the other 8 are doing well. Meanwhile, I've been reading a whole lot on cloning, LC (getting ahead of myself as always), and some of the different teks out there. I'll be trying it all eventually, but I'm curious if I should still use the Miracle-Gro (Coir and Verm), or should I go another route? Also, what would be the trick (if any) to take 1 cup and try to go bulk? I'd probably buy one of the aluminum cooking dishes from walmart, break up 1 cup, drop the chunks in and case. Trying to keep it all sterile as well of course. Does that sound right? Input is always appreciated, and I'll be updating this daily/pseudo-daily. |

Hi Bob, after viewing your pics [plastic is alittle harder to see threw] I think you may have some contams. The few areas of growth have gone aerial instead of spreading out. Dont throw them out yet but the next few days should tell if you have good or bad growth. I have'nt tried those plastic cups yet but im intriged . GLUCK

I also was looking at your photos of the possable contam. With a closer look at the vertical growth, I think it's just mycilia going for a stray peice of substrate on the side of the container. BUT I'm not an expert by any means. Plantman | |

Congratulations on your first grow! My first was also the HAW "strain". Treated me nicely. It's nice once you get that first harvest, you can have a self sustaining operation after that. I made sure to get a couple good prints and started working with LC's. Now i'm on my 2nd grow, using an LC made from the very first fruit I harvested. Trying to keep that guy's dna around indefinetely so it can become immortal |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Day 10
The joys of being a n00b... I ran into a little problem when I used the PC. Aside from watching my mom make pickles and jellies when I was a child...this was my first experience with a PC. So...I had a couple cups tip over and take in some water, and I'm thinking they may have been a little moist when I put them in the pressure cooker. To make things even more interesting (once again being a n00b), I had multiple inoculation points on some jars, and 1 inoculation point on others. I was squirting more in some then others and such. I did the smell test, and everything still smells like grain. I also took some topical pictures for the masses. It does look kinda fuzzy, but it's not entirely poofy like some of the contam pics I've seen here. I've also seen some of Irishlion's work, and I was thinking about trying some of his tactics. I don't even know the guy, but from what I've seen, I somewhat almost kinda idolize him. LOL! Here are some new pics for the boring log. I do appreciate the input considering everyone here dislikes logs. I'm only doing the first one so other people can tell me when i've fucked up... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Lookin goodBut i would keep those lids on the cups at all times until the cakes are ready to be birthed. Even taking a quick pic could allow a number of harmful particles to land on your grain and cause a contaminate. After the cakes are mature, they are more resistant to contams, and can be handled more freely. But this is the time when you need to play it safe and give them the best colonizing conditions possible. -Best of Luck |

LOL, yeah, just trying to make it easier for the masses to assist. I'm new to this research, but I plan on researching the HELL out of this strain, and whatever other strains work their way here. Who knows, maybe these'll help me find Jesus! No, I'm not religious, so please don't start calling me preachy... |

Just lost 2 cups to Trich. Meanwhile, finally got around to getting some widemouth glass jars, plastic lids, and polyfil. Here's hoping everything else comes out well. SWIM has read up on better ways to handle his inoculation as well as grain handling techniques to reduce moisture. Hopefully these are the areas that caused the problems since all else is pretty text book. |

You guys rock, and I've got a ways to go before I'm on your level... Just lost 2 more cups I'm guessing to wetspot. They didn't smell like sour rotten apples, but rather, like carmel apples. Smelled very sweet and tasty and I suddenly want 1... For shits and giggles, I squirted some peroxide into 1 container and listened to it sizzle... The 2 cups were the ones that took in some water during the PC. I have 2 cups that are growing smoothly, the remaining cups are questionable, but I'll keep an eye on em. |

Yes I did. In case it was your next question, I made sure they had the number 5 in the recycling thing on the bottom of the cups. I thought it was going to be cheaper than buying the jars, but I made an ass of myself there... I was following my buddy's footsteps there, and just like him, I'm moving on to glass. I might use the lil ziplock cups next time I make pudding or something... |

Thanks killa! Anyways... I inoculated jars for my 2nd try at cultivation, and shortly after putting the new jars in my TiT I read a lil post in the archives about flipping the jars. Dare I say, that was the greatest post I've seen... I utilized that technique, and here I am, 2 days later and things are growing again. Very noticeable explosion in myc, and I look forward to seeing where this gets me. First pic is of my TiT. (nicely filled recently) 2nd is my best looking cup. 3 and 4 are pics of my 2nd best cup from 2 sides. Other cups are moving, but I'm not too sure about them. This is what I get for trying to make a 3cc syringe last across 10 cups... For future uses, I'll be refilling between jars instead of stretching.
