When is the right time to birth a cake??

I've read that the pf tek says to wait until pins show while they are in jars in the indirect light. I've also read that you can just take the cake out of the jar when there are no pins for other strains, but the cake must be fully colonized. Are you supposed to induce pinning while inside of the jars when the jar is completely colonized for the actual pf strain or all strains? I ask this because I have a few cakes that are fully colonized, but show no signs of pinning yet, and it's been almost 2 weeks.

Sometimes they look 100% when in reality the middle of the cake has colonized yet. As for waiting to see pins inside the jar prior to birthing..I think it is best but still a matter of personal preference, both will work.

You can birth them once they are 100% colonized, Some growers wait a couple extra days just to make sure. I have found either way to work. You should definitely dunk the cakes to rehydrate all the moisture lost during colonization. If you have very small pins, you can leave them on there. If you have bigger pins, well, pick those--they will abort from the dunking otherwise. I have found that it normally takes about a month to see pins if you did a multispore innoculation. Good luck!

personally

I wait a week after 100% colonization. That way the midle has time to colonize as well. Then I birth.
