![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Really strange growth on Koi Sumai Cakes...
The title says it all, I have had some very weird mutations popping up all over the place on these cakes. Lots of good looking normal boomers, but some that are just plain weird. This is one I have never seen before though, I am attaching a crappy image but I will try and describe it as well. It appeared to start as a normal cluster of pins, but they just kept growing white with no heads, in fact they have a hole where the cap should have been, if you look inside this hole you can see the gills of a normal mushroom only white, not fleshy. Some of these have even expanded into an almost fan like shape with the gills now on the bottom. Any one ever heard of this???? Seen this? Been eaten by this? Really curious if this is safe to eat, I planned on making some of these a B-day present for a really good friend. I sure don't want to send him to the hospital or kill him or some shit like that.Oh yeah sorry for the crappy pic, cell phones all we had ATM. I will try and take better tonight if I can steal a camera for a minute.

looks like it could be rosecomb....some of the pics on the glossary match some of the weirdness I have going on here. I will try and get a better picture of the extreme weirdness tonight. Thanks for the help so far all.

I don't think they would be unsafe to eat. A good test would be to cut them open and make sure they are indeed cubensis tissue. I would think that if they bruise and look, smell and feel like mushroom tissue they should be fine.
