![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Simple and Effective Cloning Tek
Hello Topiates! Some one posted an inquiry about cloning on a thread I started about my latest beast of a shroom i grew from a clone. I wanted to share with you all how I go about cloning. It is WELL worth the little bit of extra time it takes compared to using just multispore grows. This is how I do my cloning.... sorry if it is a bit long and verbose. I tried to make it very clear how it is done. It really is not that difficult. I acknowledge that much of my tek has been amassed with bits and pieces of other topiate member's ideas and those of some of my headie ass friends. Here we go: I take a pint jar, puncture a hole in the lid with a nail. Then I take some broken glass (about 5 or 6 pieces), each about the size of thumb tack, and put them in the pint jar with about ~150ml of water. I put aluminum foil over the top and put into my pressure cooker for about 30 minutes. I take my pressure cooker off the stove and let it cool while keeping the PC lid on. I select my fruit from my fruiting tub that I want to clone. Either the largest shroom from a vigourously growing cluster or the random monster like the one I chose to clone to produce this phattie. Selection of the shroom to clone is a COMPLETLY different topic. Hit the Vaults they are your best friend here on Topia ![]() I use a half assed made glove box and wear gloves, a hat, and one of those white face masks that filters my stank ass breath from breathing contams into the glove box. It covers your mouth and nose and has a rubber band thing that holds it on....ie the same shit dentists usually wear. While wearing the gloves and all the previously mentioned shit I take my shroom that I want to clone and gently TEAR apart the mushroom from the bottom up towards the cap. DO NOT cut with a knife b/c this can introduce contams from the outside of the mushroom to the inside of the shroom. The inside of the shroom will, more than likely, usually be sterile. I then use a pair of 90% iso steralized tweezers and pull out some of the INNER MOST mycelium tissue. A couple of nice strands can easily be pulled out and put DIRECTLY into the sterilized pint jar. Take the lid off the pint jar and put tissue in as quickly as possible to help prevent airborn contams. I then immedietly wipe the jar completely down with 90% iso alcohol and make sure the lid is on tight and the foil is tight. I put my thumb over the hole in the lid, it also has the aluminum foil still on it, and shake that jar like I was high on meth. Shake, shake, shake, until the dense strands of sterile mushroom break up and make the sterile water look cloudy. The water will now be saturated with healthy mushroom tissue with the genetic traits that you have selected by choosing your specific shroom to clone. Then I use syringes, I like large 50ml syringes located in the equine section at my Tractor Supply with an 8 or 10 gauge needle. The longer the needle the better. SporeWorks sells pre sterilized syringes if you can't find them locally and supporting the Sponsers is always a good thing. They help keep this beautiful place alive... ![]() I sterlize my needle, shake the jar, and then remove the aluminum foil. I then make 3 syringes with all the sterile water / clone tissue. I knock up some sterilized WBS so that I can do g2g transfers in the future. ~150ml of tissue saturated water can make TONS of quart sized jars. I usually put more than is needed in each jar, ie 10ml to 20ml . Shake the grain in the jars up. Mine are usually fully colonized in about a week. Keep at or near 80 degrees to help increase colonization speed. Another thing, use your syringes the day you make them. They won't work after a couple days. Have your sterilized WBS jars (or whatever spawn you prefer) cooled and ready to go before you make your clone syringes and knock up your jars the day you make them. Now you have your clone.... ![]() I hope this will help those who are looking for cloning alternatives. Rev Trips was the bomb at making those huge South American shrooms. He is in a class that I have yet to have achieved....but hopefully, I'll get there some day with my Golden Teachers ![]() Thanks for reading. Again, i've borrowed many different concepts from some very wise mushroom cultivators over the years, many from Topia's vaults. I can't express how much KNOWLEDGE is located in the vaults to you newbs. Read, read, read, and than ask informed questions and you will be well on your way to harvesting some awesome yields. If you are uncertain about anything ask away and I will be glad to help. Peace and Love, ![]() GT

Nicely done GoldenTeacher, very simple and effective. That seems just as good as doing an LC, and with just water.

Great write-up, GT. I do about the same thing, except I peel the fruit for cloning with a sterilized blade, then extract tissue with sterlized tweezers. One thing to mention: Use the clone water as quickly as possible, as it degenerates immediately. I have found that beyond a day or so, the clone water is no longer any good. Peace!

so the water is washing of the myc that stays left behind in the jar. or can you break a couple little peices right of the cake into a clean jar and spray in steril water break up chunks and suck back up and use.(sorry for draggin ass)

Then I make my jars with the air dried WBS. My jars do seem to have a little moisture in the bottom after injecting with 10-20ml of water but if there is enough tissue in the water the jars start growing at an insane rate. I have three holes in the lids of my jars covered with a paper towel and a rubber band. The water is breathed out by the mycelium rather quickly. I haven't had any wet rot issues. If you think 10-20ml is too much you can always use less. I did mention that I add more than is needed to the jars. I just think they go MUCH quicker to full colonization with more clone water. The fresh tissue seems to be thrilled to have fresh nutrients to eat and just rips through the WBS in under a week. I've had jars done in 4 days with this method. ![]() GT
