Sorry to be an impatient child but should I literally be looking for the hyphae to twist up with one another to make a knot? I've had these puppies in the terrarium for 5 days now. I figured I was misting them too much the first 48 hours so I've not misted them since, just the box and perlite. Temp is 75 F and RH is > 95%. Granted, the pics aren't the best but when looking at the cakes themselves I see a good amount of hyphae poking out. Some I would say are rather thick looking. Should I be looking for the hyphae to twist up (knot) with each other or do they just thicken up? Thanks.

I've got pins bitches. It seems the sides that escaped the onslaught of my initial misting attempts have fared the best so far. I birthed some treasure the other day and they have been treated with the utmost care and are doing excellent. No misting except a few minutes after applying the verm. I suppose so long as I keep my humidity high the first flush I shouldn't have to mist the cakes. I'm glad I did my fruiting experiments with the PF tek before moving up to my straw/manure bulks. 1 hour dunks and no case for me.

All new growers should cut their teeth this way, its not so daunting and works 99% of the time. Love the PF tek. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update - pins and veils (student seeking teacher)
So, I've got biochem/micro skills galore from college yet that hasn't helped me none with fruiting. About two years ago I lost an entire crop (~150 1/2 pints including bulks made from those) because I was busy with work and thought I'd fruit them all at once. Anyways, poor air exchange and condensation led to the asphyxiation of my entire crop . After the initial shock and the self-loathing for not working/experimenting in stages, I decided I wouldn't try again. Well, here I am again and I'm getting better results. The humidity/air exchange thing is a bitch. I need to work on automating this shit. I've got bulks coming to maturity within a week. So, I'm making a prayer to the shroom god's for some possible divine intervention. I pledge to become a full contributing member to this board upon my graduation with a M.S. (Master of Shroomin') in Entheomycology from Mycotopia. My pics: My setup consists of two shotgun-style terrariums. I've got a humidifier and vaporizer between the two with a clear plastic drip sheet over the top. My pins appear to be breaking their veils at a small size. Is this possibly due to humidity/moisture conditions? If you've read all posts then you know I'm not misting my cakes. Just the box and perlite for added moisture. I fan between 3-6 times/day. Again, as I've written in a post above temp is 75 F and RH is > 95%. The PF tek is my way of finding the right moisture/humidity conditions. I suppose one just has to try by trial and error to find the right conditions unless they have an automated setup. The last pic I have given you I've circled the pins that still have their veils attaced to the stems in blue and the ones in red where they are starting to detach. *edit* damn, I guess I should pose the question about whether I am actually seeing the veil break? It just looks the the inferior or distal end of the veil is away from the stem. Is then when it starts? Dunno... here's another pic for better viewing. Thanks for any help/advice. yea this hobby takes time and constant effort to learn. At times you will make jars knock them up and everything will be fine. Next well you already know about that.. :+{ You have pins and should have plenty of good fruits to eat soon enough fresh off them cakes to sacrifice to the shroom gods :+}~ WTG and keep up the faith!
