![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Purple Colored Syringe and Syringe and making Agar using 1/2 pint jars??'s
I am wondering why a syyringe I made myself ... Why the water look purple??? Bad print period? It was made from a fresh print. Also what size needles are best for the various uses? I have some new 14 gauge and 18 gauge. Do I need 16 gauge for inoculation. Also how well will the 14 work for LC's? Lastly how should the holes be in a 1/2 pint jar to use them for agar dishes? Thank you RestartLater |

ok well the syringe stayed purple even after a nice long rehydration period... where all my other syringes have always be clear water with tons / shit loads of spores....... Also I have noticed clumping of spores does that hurt anything other than possible clogging of the syringe during inoculation.? Sorry but I have tons of questions too. you all are good people and have always been great help! Been discouraging lately due to growing trich etc....... grrrrrrrrrrr dang it man it gets frustrating as hell..LOL Hope you can answer my other questions too. Thank you RestartLater |

ReRun, I made a syringe the other day when I was in a hurry that you could have recharged a printer cartridge with! No harm done, just a waste of spores. The gauge of your needle isn't all that important as long as it will fit through the holes in the lid. Some are better for certain uses than others, you'll develop a preference if you have a selection to work with. You'll get as many different answers about lids as you get replies. Some prefer polyfill, others tyvek, taped up holes, etc. I'll get a lot of arguments I'm sure, but I drill 4 small holes in the lids and fill them with silicone or RTV cement. I use the same lids for everything, you can stick a sterile airport in one of the holes where needed. Try to avoid innoculating with trich whereever possible... ![]() No more houses, but I did do a face plant playing disc golf July 4th!

Spores are purple. Purple syringe means a syringe with lots of spores in it. Clumpy will make it look even more purple. Clumpy syringe will work just as well as a totally clear syringe. You should thoroughly shake all syringes before use. For spore syringes any diameter needle will work. You can cover the inoculation holes with aluminum foil or micro pore tape. The verm layer on top of a cake works well to keep contams out. You must not move the cake around a lot during incubation. Shifting the verm barrier lets the contams in. I use 16ga needles for liquid cultures. Trich is much more common during the warm summer months.

If it's purple, you are seeing hundreds of millions of billions of spores... Just think semen... May sound gross, but seriously though... You could get away with 1 drip per jar and it'll grow... Higher amounts will just ensure you get spores on more kernals for faster growth... I can't give tips for LC since a buddy handled his own LC and just passed me a loaded syringe...but 18g worked for us, so 14g would definitely be good if you have REALLY heavy LC growth...I've basically used 18 for everything thus far... Dunno Agar just yet... For Trich issues... (and I'm limited in experience thus far, but based on what I've dealt with and It's no longer an issue thus far...) Look at your entire procedure for inoculation. Anywhere that you think you can make it cleaner (ie closing windows for less draft, glovebox, etc...), try expanding in those areas. I read somewhere that a simple cardboard box is better than open air, and that's all I used... 2nd inoculation has had 0 problems compared to my first try (which was open air with a 20% trich rate). It you're refering to post incubation, I dunno though cause I've finally cased a few and haven't gotten far enough to actually begin fruiting just yet. Go chill in the old vaults a while. IMHO, they're very well organized, and so far seem much more straightforward with a higher amount of info than the new ones... Also, if you have any pets, abuse them regularly... I read a post involving an experiment confirming that Trich spores are all over hair... I shave my head, but washing yours (especially if you have a dandruff problem) could possibly help... I'm just a n00b though, and can't wait to post my own success story with pics so I can join all the other cool kids here.

I hear ya on the different lids mate tried a few different ones myself.....LOL I just thought about this time of year too and cultivating...... Usually I am in Sturgis or on my way by now but not making the journey this year .... but staying home and growing during the hottest months is not the smartest idea I ever had......LOL BUt this year has not been as hot as past summers. Actually it has been one of the wettest summers for years here. Which could also have something to do with green too. gr Thanks everyone off to make agar and clean again LOL RestartLater |

Also got off my lazy butt and made a nice glovebox 2 days ago but will not do anything until I clean this house again for the 3rd - 4th time top to bottom since May as well as the cult room. I am glad I made hundreds of prints over the last few years....LOL Yanno after 2 + years of growing boomers still making small mistakes that cost me time and effort.LOL Yet, learning everyday and trying new things keeps rerun not so fat :+}~ please any advice is always welcome.... I plan on trying Roger's Straw Log Tek in the next fews days because it looked cool....... Anyone ever tried it or been able to get more than 1 flush from them? Thank you again RestartLater |
