Hydrating grain with coffee=contam?

So I tried hydrating my popcorn with weak coffee, having read that it speeds up colonization.
I used one table spoon of coffee grounds per liter of water, hydrated as usual and PCd the jars for 40min as usual.

The thing is that all my jars contaminated with trich 4 days later.
I've never had any contamination in my jars since I started using a PC until now.

Has anyone else had this problem?
I know I'm not gonna waste more coffee and popcorn.

I have never tried it. It seemed to be a fad for a little while and some people still do it. Most say it increased contams from what I've read. I have personally seen grounds turn green in my coffee maker in 2 days so I never had a reason to trust it.... That is fast.....

I wanna try beer myself. Kinda seems like a waste of some good Guiness, but hell, good beer should make good shrooms...

Or if you want cannibal mushies, take some left over mushies and powder em up and toss that in!

For contam problems with coffee, maybe PC, wait a day, then PC again? You can't soak a cup of coffee (not that I can think of) but the dual PC might allow the bad stuff to start germination, then be susceptible to the heat the 2nd time around.

Coffee is acidic, and trich loves acidic substrates. One needs to make sure the coffee grounds have been used first to make them weaker, and add lime to lower the PH. SWIM has never had good results using coffee, and doesn't think the risk outweighs the benefits, however some swear by it and claim it helps give the mycelium a boost, making colonization faster. SWIM hasn't had any luck, though.

The best thing coffee grounds add is nitrogen and some trace sugars. I haven't tested it yet, but everything I've read on what's in roasted coffee would suggest that for our collective purposes, the brewed, coarse-ground grounds of a dark roast mixed with gypsum or lime would be most suitable.

Right, the PH is going in the wrong direction, but as far as what it has to contribute for the mix- grounds are probaby pretty yummy with some grain if your a dikaryoticmycel

Well it seems hydrating with coffee just isn't worth the extra high contam risk. Thanks for all the input!
