![]() ![]() ![]() | casing?
Hello all, I have some casing questions... I cased a couple cups about 5 days ago, and I'm seeing some myc come up to the top. I'm curious of just how far I should let the casing run before tossing into my FC. I've read a lot about overlay, and want to avoid that, but I've also (5 minutes ago) read Fahtster's late casing tek. The tek is more about casing when you have knots forming vs moving the cake to fc after partial colonization of casing. Does anyone have some good pics of knots so I gan go by something for future reference? Also, would you move these cups to fc, or wait a couple more days?

faht's late casing pretty much turned out to be much ado about nothing. no real advantage. as to when to move in the fc - what you want to see is mycelia peaking through the low areas, the valleys of the casing surface. you cover the first break-thru with a little fresh casing mix to let the entire tray catch up. once you see mycelia in all the low spots, move to the fc - it's good to go.

Hey Boboso I leave cased substrate inside my dark incubator covered with aluminum foil with air holes poked in it. Then once 20-30% of the surface layer has turned white then drop tempature 10F add light 12 hours on 12 hours off and increase humidity to 90-99%. Now make sure you mist the cased substrate but not 2 much. Enough to make it moist not soaked. I myself am still learning and in the middle of the same project. Everything is going good so far and it's day 4. I'm sure if i'm a little off someone will correct me. Hope this helps... Oh I'm not sure what strain you are doing but i was told by day 6 in the FC with B+ you should see pins

![]() ![]() ![]() | I just cased em, tossed into the incubator 3 days, then into FC. Nothing special there. after 3 days, had rhizo on and through the casing. Full pinset on 1 cup, sparse on another. It worked well all in all, but no real big advantage to uncased. Then again, I have high humidity in the FC and mist 3-4 times a day.
