Hi everybody haven't posted here in ages but I'm trying to get back into the hobby, and already run into some problems, apparently its not like riding a bike. Acquired spore syringes from a sponsor here, nocced up several batches of both wheat berries, whole grain rice, and LC. The first couple of green jars I attributed to my own lack of practise; but after reviewing the teks here and trying again (with a diff syringe) I'm still seeing the green monster emanating from the innoculation points. I follow all the normal sterile procedures that have worked fine for me in the past. I use tyvek, and a silicon bead on the lids for an injection port. My ? is: Should I go ahead and contact the vendor, or do you guys think I missed something and my contams are coming from my own ignorance. The control jar I did on my last batch (no spore water) still shows no green. The nocced jars are already in the garbage. sooooo.... idk please advise -vrooooota

was the strain amazon by chance i had a problem with a sponsors amazon syringes i never registered a complaint wasnt that worried about it same problem it was with all the syringes. i have since that time used the same glovebox, same jars/lids, same procedures and everything and had no problems even when making syringes from scratch so 99% positive it wasnt a user error did you get any myc growth or just the green bitch when i noc'd mine i got beautiful myc for one day the next day however all that beautiful myc was surrounded by trich

Joined 1970 ? Wow I guess you kept a low profile. All the sponsors here that i know of have perfected the art of producing contaminate free syringes. The strains they sell seem to be hardy and contaminate resistant. And best of all fresh. No spores sit around long im sure. Are you PC ing long enough?

but i would still contact the sponsor, he may already know of a bad batch if others have reported the same thing. assuming clean spores my next suspect might be the silicon port, they can leak. of course incomplete sterilization is possible but growth from inoculation points implies a contam getting past the lid somehow.

I am of the opinion that if your spawn is not rinsed off well, one might be more prone to contam.. But I would say a pre inoc jar would sprout up contams at random spots, if jar were contamed and not sterilized.. Where as if you are introducing contams or have a non sealed point in your lid, the inoculation point would be where one would notice contams first.

I've pared back my sterilzation technique to what I've determined are the most minimal requirements, and I've almost always met with success barring the odd jar or two. So... 1. Silicon on both sides of the lid 2. Flame sterilize needle 3. Alcohol wipe on needle immediately prior to retrieval from LC/injection to substrate 4. Work at least in the Poor Man's Flowhood - updraft of oven at 200 fahrenheit, rack pulled out. 5. Alcohol wipe the needle. But after all that, then yeah, your contamination vector may be the spore medium itself, like the elders have said. |

it's a bunk tek discredited years ago. you'd be better off in some ghetto cardboard glovebox- the oven door tek will actually blow contams INTO your jars.

ah sweet thanks for that pic hip i was just talking to someone about that the other day reminiscing about my first grow and to the author of this thread yeah man that oven is just no good and that hip that hip has bestowed upon is one of the best examples the other example would be those jars of yours build yourself a glovebox it will cost you possibly $15 and save you all that in reduced heartache and stress(not to mention money lost)of your first grow
