Something new every time.
Ok, I have one jar fully colonized and healthy looking, but when I opened it I got that faint sour apple smell.
It looks great.....and other jars smell normal.

Can this cake be birthed since it's 100% colonized?

sour apple smell is bacterial contamination... best to toss out all contaminated cakes!

if the cake is healty and just kinda smeels wierd then instead of tossing it why not make a sub with it, bacteria doesn't seem to do to well in dung. Pasterize like quart or 2 of 50/50 dung/straw or coir, and use a chesse grater and grate that cake into it, worst can happen is it will fail but, best can happen is you get some mushies.

I think in my mind it will do alright, but darling is right, best to toss but, i like playing with shit

I agree on still trying to use it, and spawn it but keep it away from the rest of them just in case things go to pot

Exactly. I'd really not waste the time with it, but from what IL and GG said, if you want to that'd be the way to do it. Don't feel bad, I recently lost 6 full pint jars of koh samui to cobweb. Happens to the best of us.

Do all of your jars have that smell or is it just one?
