![]() | Spawning using rye berries and a dry prnt
Hi, I have a South American print I'd like to use to create some spawn. I don't have any syringes, and would like to ask if the advice below seems accurate. Basically, the main question I have is whether scraping the dry print into a sterilized rye berry jar will produce colonization at normal temp's of low 70's in a dark place. Thanks as always, Hobbit Girl Alternatively, you could remove the lid and scrape in some dry spores from a spore print or use some sterile mycelium taken from an existing culture. 3. Growth At this point, you simply place the jars in a clean, dark place and wait for permeation. You get the most rapid growth if you shake up the grains every 3 or 4 days. This is part of the reason for using rye berries. Rice simply won't shake up properly. It clumps. The inside of the clumps never get inoculated and it takes weeks for the mycelium to permeate. While it is taking such a long time, it is easy for contaminants to get the upper hand. Organic rye stays loose and allows the mycelium to rapidly colonize. Once colonized, you are done. The jars will stay nice and usable for 3 or 4 months if kept in a cool, dark place |

If you rehydrate your spores in the print bag for a day and then make your swipe it would probably work pretty well, same thing as a syringe.

Spores germinate quicker once they are hydrated. A spore print, of course, is dry spores. If you scraped that into a substrate without hydration, it would take longer to germinate. And colonization is a race that you want the mycelium to win.
