 | pinning/FC advice?
I have 2 cased cakes and 1 uncased cake in the FC... Been there for a little over a week and nothing noticeable has happened... The uncased cake developed a very fine layer of surface fuzz (which a buddy said was no problem), and the cased cakes have colonized a lil more while in the chamber, but not near as fast as when they were in the incubator. I don't know the RH but as you can see, I have condensation above the bubblers, so RH should be decent I'm assuming. Room temp is 70F, AC is off... Been a cooler summer for my region... Enclosed are pics of the cakes as well as the FC. Had to push saran wrap down to move the glare off 1 cake for better viewing... What do the pros think may be wrong, or am I just too impatient? Also, can someone by chance share a nice primordia pic, so I know what to look for when (or if) that time comes?

You need to put some perlite down below your cakes... there should be condensation inside the FC, not just above the bubblers... I'm trying to figure out what you've done there... do you have PF cakes placed inside plastic cups, or is that straight colonized rice? Can't tell from the pics.... Normally cakes are fruited in the open, sitting on a lid or some such material, above some wet perlite for humidity. Bubblers are a neato add-on, but ya just can't beat perlite for consistent humidity, IMO.... Please explain what you've got some more, and we'll be happy to give more info,  soliver |

Ballin on a budget, so no perlite... Using rye grass seed for all 3 cakes which are still in the cups... The bubblers are there cause I used to breed tropical fish and have a bunch of air pumps.

Perlite only costs a few dollars (roughly same price as vermiculite) and it will do wonders for keeping your humidity constant. My last grow took about 2.5-3weeks to even start pinning, patience is definitely key in this hobby

| Growing mushies is another bad addiction...
I realize mushrooms (as well as buds) aren't addictive, and yet, I'm addicted to bud  and now I'm suddenly addicted to growing boomers. I counted out $6 in loose change just to buy perlite. While adding perlite, I decided to take the uncased cake out of the cup when I noticed something that gave me a nice 3.5 inch boner! (I'm white, leave me alone... )I have a single lonely pin! I also noticed a whole bunch of primordia on the sides and a few on top of the uncased cake, as well as some additional primordia on the cased cakes. I would've shot some pics of the primordia, but the camera phone isn't too hot at that...I did however take a pic of my cake's lil boner as well as my newly completed temporary fruiting chamber. Can't wait til friday to get something bigger... The pin is the bigger guy jumping out there...although still a youngin, I'm proud of him for having the courage to come out and say hello...

Sweetness! That perlite should give your boomer the proper overall environment they need to do what you want them to do (give you boners). When you get fruits, be sure to take prints (check archives for various teks) since it seems you're working on a budget... spores cost $ and making your own syringes is FREE ... soliver |

| update on pins...
I can't wait for these guys to mature... The last 2 are the same cake from 2 sides. It has clusters on both sides, so I'm thinking my first grow is gonna lead to my first clone AND first spore prints... The biggest mushy there is currently about an inch in length, and it's blowing my mind how it's growing... I feel like I can leave for a couple hours and see the difference! I can't wait to eat him...for research purposes of course...LOL! The 2 cased cups are hard to see well in the pics, but in real life, they're beautiful!

Be patient and stick with what yer doin' right now! Oh, and growing mushrooms is one of the most addictive things I have discovered (and I've discovered lots of addictive things over the years). I quit heroin after about 6 months. 3 years and counting on growing 'shrooms....wait until you discover agar and strain isolation...

I'm trying to find agar right now... I don't know why, but it's really difficult. I know I could get it online, but I would rather ensure the job security of some lowly cashier. That, and my bank account is -368.17 right now. I'll be paying towards that, but I'd like money from my paycheck to handle personal business too... I've found local places online, but $3 for preprepared agar dishes sounds expensive, and that place doesn't list agar by itself. I would much rather buy 25 dishes for $15 and spend some dollars on agar... I know it's cheaper seperate...

Buy the Petri dishes off eBay. You can get Agar at most organic food stores and all Oriental markets. They call it "Kanten" and is used to gell/thicken things. Here is my tek for making Agar plates: http://forums.mycotopia.net/agar-str...zai-style.html (Agar for the masses - Banzai Style!) Works like a charm...

I buy just about everything besides groceries on-line. When I lived in Oakland, I bought my groceries on-line too! SafeWay delivered for free. I ran a server farm in my living room (SDSL T1 in Oakland ran $79 a month), cultivated in the back bedroom (from clones purchased a few blocks away at compassionate caregivers) and had very little reason to leave the house most of the time! I get ALL my parts from Newegg! Love those daily deals...

Yeah man, when i built my computer I bought everything off Newegg, and My tv... $500 for a $1500 tv... Can't beat it. I'm a technogeek from hell... I'm moving away from internet shopping cause I feel with more purchases online, we are killing out local stores and job security. If my bank account wasn't so negative, I'd buy shit online. Maybe I'll go buy a prepaid visa from walmart... Did that to order my syringes...

I take it back, I bought my first video card from www.zipzoomfly.com cause the price was the exact same, but it was free 2 day shipping compared to newegg's free 3 day shipping...

I guess you could say I'm pinning out the asshole... I noticed some caps coming out from the underside of my cake, and decided to take a gander. Those fruits are much more plentiful and larger than the pins of the top... Should I just pick the couple off the top and flip, or leave it as is? The first pic is of the bottom of the cake, the 2nd is a side view of the best looking side, and the 3rd is a pick of a juicy lil 4 way penis... For lack of better terms. You can see 3 caps from the 1 stem, but the 4th is hiding under a nearby fruit. Would this 4 way pecker be a good candidate for my first clone attempt? Don't know how big it'll get, but so far, it's keeping me highly amused...

I'd say leave 'em like they grew. The covered babies will push their way out! Might have pinned better on the bottom because of humidity, but that is just a WAG.

I decided to flip the uncased cakes. My buddy's theory is that they came out the bottom cause I flipped the cup half way and confused the myc. Maybe the myc thought the bottom was the top. It's a wild theory, but if you watch NASA video of tadpoles in outerspace, gravity does more for earth's living things than we give it credit for... Anyways, the cased cups are finally at a point where my crumby cameraphone is capable of getting nice pics of the youngins... The biggest in the cased cups is a little over an inch so far. The biggest in the uncased is a little over 2ish inches.

Not yet. I'm waiting to have enough to get together with a girl I know. Gonna eat em up... Maybe eat her up... Who knows, but it'll be fun. I know she wants me, but I don't know if I really wanna bring friendship to the next level... Not talking bout a relationship, but...you know...
