How to get Rye Cakes to fruit

My friend recently took a fully colonized rye jar and broke it up, than tried to mush it up as well as he could with a grapefruit spoon in order to make it less whole grain-y, and popped that into a small monotub bottle for re colonization and than to fruit once it's ready. He just want to know how it's possible to get whole grains to fruit, cause he's heard that whole grains don't like to fruit. any suggestions?

I'm using rye seeds and I've got MANY spots of primordia as well as several pins... I've attached a couple pics of an uncased cake in my FC.

I'm not so sure about using a monotub to fruit your grains though since grains are known to have moisture problems... I could be wrong, but I think you'd be better off putting your cake into a decent FC instead.

I went all out on the FC using perlite with bubblers, but perlite is all you really need. The added moisture would do great for your lil mushies and Home Depot lowered the price on the 8 quart bags of perlite... It's less then $5 after tax, and you can get a cheap tub from walmart for another $5. I need a bigger tub myself...

To initiate pinning itself, start subjecting that lil bad boy to some light, fresh air, and keep it moist. You should have pins in a week or so...

I would use a monotub just make sure that you spawn to some nicely field capacitied poo/verm/maybe some straw etc..... I have spawned rye berries before but the results weren't what I wanted. Not much different than a PF cake, maybe even a little less. That could just be me though.

Nice pics bosbo, looks like they're comming right along.
my friend said, and i quote:
I have to let it re colononize and get white again... I gave it some water smushed it up and am gonna see where it's at in a few days... I don't even know what a mono tub is. i just figured it was a fruiting chamber that the whole bottom is filled with mycel. Anyways It's all in a bottle re colonizing... when it's ready i'm going to poke some holes in it and let her rip... and let some light on and maybe put it in the fridge for an hour and see what happens... i'm just afraid by giving it to much fresh air their wont be enough humidity.... so i might put that mono bottle or whatever you want to call it into a bigger tub with salty watered towels in the bottom to make sure ther're maximum moisture and some fresh air... it's a healthy specimun i'm sure it's dying to fruit... i'm just having doubts as this will be my first fruiting attempt.

I just love how you went from "my friend" to "my first fruiting attempt." Don't worry bud, your secret is safe with me... LOL!

Cattle, you can user the rez-effect tek or just basic casing (see Hongus Tek). Grains do not fruit so well on their own in general.
