![]() | How long will an outdoor cube patch fruit?
Hey everyone just wondering assuming an outdoor cube bed has sufficient substrate for fruiting, what conditions must be met for it to stop temperatures being too cold/too hot, night/day temps, humidity average max n min etc.... Any help is appreciated

Well, it is easier to say what temps and humidities they WILL fruit at- and since all you can do is water and provide additional substrate, you should concentrate on that. You can water (mist) during dry times- and if the temp is right- bingo. Feed new substrate in at the beginning of the season, so the colony can gow- more or less using the original colony as spawn into a larger bulk.... That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck.

"Well, it is easier to say what temps and humidities they WILL fruit at..." From what I read, they grow outdoors only in southern, humid areas. I guess I'd be wasting my time trying to grow them outside in frigid Canada, eh?

Catdaddy- Ive got 1 small patch (1x3 feet) and 7 large ones (4x4) from about 200 quart jars (1 and 1/2 cups rye grain spawn) to 1000+ pounds of shit, so I'm not worrying about having to mix in substrate Im sure theres plenty of food. Im wondering about what the temps/humidity will have to be for it to stop fruiting, since Im in Ontario, Canada thats probably when it gets to cold. Then I wonder if the cold will merely preserve the patches or kill them (I remember hearing about culture being stored via fridge or freezer?) SilvrHairDevil Im in Ontario, Canada and my patches have been out for about 2 months now. After 1 month a big one had a small harvest of a half oz dry. My smallest patch has been fruiting steady for weeks but only yielded maybe a half to a oz dry. 2 days ago I checked one of my big patches I never visit and harvested maybe 2+ ounces dry, Ill try to post pics after cleaning and rinsing and before drying Hippie3: ahahahhahaha that cold frame looks fucking badass gotta check that out. The first big patch I did has a wooden frame with a weedcloth bottom so if the coldframe doesnt need its on bottom I could just build it right on top. If I can just build a coldframe on top of the patches for the winteer that would be clutch, if not I guess I could build the coldframes and transplant the patches into em I guess at this point my question becomes how cold does it have to be for cubensis to stop fruiting? Is it the coldness of the average temp or is the coldest temp (eg night) the biggst factor

down into the low 70sF so figure long periods of time [night or day] in the 60sF would likely end fruiting .

At 7:00 this morning, my outside thermometer showed 55º F and I wouldn't be surprised to see night-time frost next month. I think I will have to wait until next year.

I think I may have come across a partial answer to the chill of the evenings. A carry-over from the Winemaking World - the brew belt (heat belt). Combined with a cold frame, and installed in an outdoor laundry sink: that should keep the Frost Demons at bay for a while. Do they still make waterbeds? I reckon a waterbed heater would work, too.
