Best way to crumble BRF cakes for spawn?

A FOAF was wondering what the best way would be to breakup 1/2 pints for use as spawn, without a blender? He would like to do this inside the glovebox, along with the trays of substrate, keeping everything nice and clean. How would you know if you're damaging the mycelium too much?

Use a cheese grater. Don't worry about damaging the mycelium: it will recover.

If you don't have a cheese grater you can also use a fresh ziplock bag right out of the box. Dump your cake in there and squishy squishy.

plastic bags work very well
don't worry about hurting the myc
it will be just fine

With the cakes already being 100% colonized you dont have to worry to
much about being super sterile no need for the GB.
So I always put on some rubber gloves wiped with alcy and just crush
them up into small bits into a plastic container and then cover with tinfoil
with holes punched in it so the myc can breath.
Let that sit for a week to recover and you will be good to go.
