Jars.

Hi all, finally got most of the stuff needed to start growing properly without kits. All i need now is jars. Tried to find the perfect jars but theres no chance of getting them in England, been out all day to loads of different places with no luck and no American sites will ship to England. Anyone got any ideas of anywhere to get glass jars in England? Or do any of you use plastic jars? If you do, how do you sterilise them? Thanks.

In the US they sell a brand called Glad - GladWare storage containers

I think any plastics marked "PP5" are autoclave-able
I've also see ppl use drinking glasses - if you're going PF style

You can find dozen boxes of wide mouth jars on ebay. Just make sure before you buy if the seller ships to england, most international sellers will but your jars are gonna be a bit pricey in the end. You can sterilize by pressure cooking for 60 mins at 15 psi.

Just been down Tescos and bought 8 250ml glasses for £1.59. Would of prefered something with a sealable lid but we just dont seem to get them jars in England. I wonder why we dont get them over here, I've read another forum and Austrailians dont get them jars either. Strange lol. Just looked on Ebay and its just over £20 postage. No thanks! Cheers for the help anyway!

With the glasses i just put tin foil over the top instead of a lid dont I?

Yes, TWO layers of foil on each glass.

Maybe not as much of a canning demand in England and Australia? I dunno. The PP5 plastic containers work, but the lids don't last very long.
