Poo/Straw water question??

I have a few questions about poo/straw water, I remember in a thread a while back "Hippie" said you can use your pasturizing water for a a batch of grain?
Well, I recently did a batch & poured it into qt jars left to cool & im gonna use it but there is a bunch of lime sediment @ the bottom of the jar, will the PH be way to high for the mycilium to colonize the grain if I use it? there is about a 1/4 in of it @ the bottom of the jar?
Thanx "Ritter"

Hey RITTER,

I'm pretty sure that residue will prove harmless. It is really just "grit" and most of the alkalinity was leeched out in the straw. But get some other opinions by all means.

How much lime did you add to the water? If you used a lot, you might consider testing that soak water before adding it to grain.

The advise for using poo/straw pasteurizing water kind of assumes you don't add bleach or lime.

Do you have a pH test kit? You can get one at an aquarium store for less than $10. That would tell you pretty quick if the water is too alkaline.

I didnt use that much @ all, only a 1/4 cup to this good sized pc in pic filled almost all the way except about 2in to the top, No I wish I had a ph tester gotta get one..
"Ritter" BTW, what is the correct ph for water that is inhibiting mycelium to grow?

Myc likes a neutral pH. 6.8-7.2 is ideal, but it will grow across a wider range.

If you go to the aquarium store, you can get a little bottle of liquid and a plastic test tube with a lid for around $10. You put about 5mL of the water you want to test into the plastic tube, put in a couple drops of the indicator, cover and shake.

The liquid will change colors and very accurately indicate the pH range (there is a color scale on the side of the little bottle of liquid).

But aquarium stores sell pH test kits for little of nothing. Electrical pH meters cost major cash and are a bit of a hassle to deal with.
