![]() | How long for casing to colonize?
I have some 13X9 aluminum pans with 1/2inch verm on the bottom and about 2inches of colonized WBS cased with about 1/2 inch of 60/40 verm coir. They are covered with waxed paper and in a closet between 80% and 85% It has been 4 days and i would say the casing is about 20% colonized.Doe's this sound right? And how long do you think i have until i can initiate fruiting? Thanks

If the 20% you're talking about is all in one spot, I would patch the colonized part with a thin layer and put it right into fruiting conditions. Others might patch and then leave it in incubation to colonize more evenly, or just throw it into fruiting conditions without patching. Patching might help you get a more even pinset. edit: can we see a picture? |

This is one that never got a verm layer on the bottom. It is colonized quite a bit more than the other 3. Why would this one colonize so much faster? So can i go a head and just start fruiting all 4 of them? I was going to use clear plastic tops that came with trays when fruiting and fruit them in the closet with a fluro on a timner. How many holes filled with polyfil should be enough |

Colonizing times for me run 4-6 days. Then 10-14 days I usually see pins form time of making casing as well as harvest the first flush. When I was using those foil tins with plastic lids I would maybe put 2-4 1/4 holes tops no more. Yet, then I was always around to provide plenty of Fresh Air Exchanges as well as misting. Good luck ![]() RestartLater |
