![]() ![]() ![]() | PF BRF cake in vitro moisture content
I have a BRF cake ready to be birthed. I'm just waiting for some pinning. It's been two weeks with nothing. The temperature has been in the mid to upper 70s so I know it would take longer, but two weeks? The moisture content inside the jar is too high though. Would an excessively high moisture level prevent pinning?

Try a cold shock in the fridge without dunking. Should draw out a little moisture and let your cake know that it's time to reproduce. I wouldn't leave it the entire time, though. Maybe 4-5 hours.

Cold shocking does not work with cubensis. The microclimate created within an invitro jar is exactly what the cake needs. If there is excess moisture, just wipe it out of the jar. Sometimes pinning takes a while. Have you given it some light? What is the strain? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sorry, but that's simply not true. I don't have any evidence, but I've tried it on more than one occasion when cakes didn't want to pin.

Many tests have been done to determine whether or not cold shocking is beneficial. All have proven that it is not. Here's one: http://archives.mycotopia.net/discus.../5/139018.html Now other species certainly benefit from the cold--azures for one. |

we DO have evidence and i'm sorry to contradict but cold shocking IS ineffective on cubensis. http://archives.mycotopia.net/discus.../5/166159.html eccentrik- high humidity does not inhibit pinning. are you exposing the cake/s to bright light daily ? you should. are the holes in the lid/s blocked ? if so remove it. are the cakes fully colonized [other than top verm barrier] ? if so i'd birth and dunk then apply dec .
