50/50 Coir/verm casing rye berry spawn 1st try

This pic shows the 6 tupperware containers my foaf just took the top al foil layer off of them and took the picture. They are 6 days old since casing, wondering about humidity problems, or will the casings being uncovered take care of it?

the second pic is of the cakes, they are in there at different times, and coincidentally they are not flushing atm, my foaf just picked mushies off of the pint cakes in the back, will need to pick the junk off of them and dunk all of them sometime tonight, maybe get another flush, but he wants to concentrate on casings now that the process of doing qt jars of spawn is easy with rye and birdseed methods that hes gone thru trial and error with. time to step up from cakes, is the martha closet and a ultra sonic humidifier from earths tongue and fungifarmer a good idea

re

Those tupperware trays are in a plastic rubbermaid with a clasp lid, it fits snug. i have 3 1/2" holes drilled on the opposite side for fae, should i open more up, or less? ive never done casings before, and i have read like 10 different ways where they say theirs is the best haha.. i cant find the juicy stuff in the archives here, i bought ur cd's but my blueray drive wont play them properly, it freezes the computer. i took em over my boys crib n they worked fine, i havent gotten a chance to look at them i should though.

you need a hygrometer to measure the rh . get a good one as cheap ones are no good at high rh which mushrooms need.

I would say a 50:50 coir:verm casing is excellent for straight grain.

Spawning grain to hydrated coir and then casing is even better.

There are many opinions on casing. All I can really say for certain is stay to field capacity or a little less and don't go more than 1 inch depth.

re

ok so your saying i could take those same containers? (i have 6 more and an identical rubbermaid for another setup) i didnt set it up yet but can i just take the coir and mix the grain with it? just coir only? in those little tupperwares i mean. then case with what ? 50/50 coir verm or 50/50+ i have the peat and hydrated lime and the oyster shells. my sentence structure is a lil off right now, im "out of it" personally right now.. just putting together another container now i have 8 more quart jars with rye grain colonized 100% for like a week now. will update with what ive done soon. theres a pic of the meters i have in my rubbermaid with the casings.

My cakes are doing very well by the way. the pint cakes are giving me yields of fruits this size, (approx 10 off of each pint cake) it fills the terrariums bottom portion, (its an aquarium duno what size it houses 18-20 pint and half pint cakes.) the cakes are placed directly on the perlite, i pick up 2 or 3 and set them aside and dump hot water into the perlite when it gets dry. this has worked very well, and i have not run into contaminates even when i leave a large bowl of dry verm for post dunked cakes sitting in the room and use it again. I havent seen anything that has been covered in vermiculite contam thus far, have been going strong for about 6 months now.. bought original syringe from earths tongue like a year ago haha i was geeked when it worked..

I would stay away from the peat. It tends to contam much worse/easier than coir.

Yes, you could add some coir to those containers, let the mix run and then case with the 50:50.

Or you can just case those grains with the 50:50, let it run and then fruit. I would just case those trays.

Straight verm won't ever contaminate (verm doesn't contain any food).
