I've made mine from scratch, its pretty easy to do, hardest part is tracking down the agar agar, but if you can find an asian food store, then you've crossed the first hurdle. I've used Buckaroo Banzai's Agar For The Masses tek that can be found in the Vaults. Its very simple, and on my first attempt, I had excellent success on my kitchen counter - no glove box, no flow hood.

This is my agar Tek: http://forums.mycotopia.net/agar-str...zai-style.html (Agar for the masses - Banzai Style!) The only thing special about my Tek is using silicone ports on the agar jar. You suck the hot agar up into a syringe and then squirt it into the plate without ever having to open the plate completely. The unused agar stays clean and ready for your next plates, too. If you buy agar from the oriental market, you are looking for kanten (kanten is a japanese word for agar). Get the powder, not the stuff that looks like glass noodles. All my Teks include lists of supplies you will need.
