![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | multispore lc. i have been using this same lc for a couple of years now. both work equally as well. just a different way to go about it. i use wbs for two reasons. one for its ease and cost in bulk, and two because the grains are nutritious and per se adds "food" to the coir. strain is redboy.

Nice one Boots! Can we get a few more specs on that tray? Like spawn:sub ratio, tray dimensions? Also curious how long it took the spawn to fully run through that coir. Oh and nice sig line buddy, God does indeed Love Ugly. |

spawn/sub ratio= 3 qt. jars, wbs per brick of coir; "bed-a-beast" sized brick. tray dimensions= 21" Length x 11" Width x 3" Depth spawn run= takes about 1 week from when the trays are made.

A coir brick will rehydrate to (roughly) 5 or 6 times it's dry volume.

Bricks are different sizes based on the manufacturer. Botanicare bricks are a different size than General Hydroponics bricks. Measure the brick in question, do the math to determine it's volume and then multiply by 5.

Do you do anything special when hydrating the coir, or just dump in hot/boiling water and let it expand? You go straight from there to the tray or is there any other sterilization in between? | |

been using coir for the trays for some time now, works fine here's what I do the coir gets hydrated with hot water until maximum capacity reached you want only a few drops when you squeeze it hard then I sterilize it in a mycobag, the whole dunno, 45 minutes to an hour then when cool enough crumble the quart of ryeIstart with a layer of coco good layer of spawn then coco, etc works like a charm and usually its a 4/1 ratio and within a week or two its done colonizing the coir ready to fruit enjoy

Materials: Home Depot 5 gal. bucket w/lid. 1 brick General Hydroponics Coir brick. 1 gal. water. i use r.o Heat up the 1 gal. of water over the stove and bring to a rolling boil. While heating up add you brick of coir to the bucket. Add boiling water to the bucket, then lid. Let it sit for a minimum of 4 hours or till cool. Once cool I add 3 qts. fully colonized wbs in open air. Lid back on and... Then shake and turn the bucket end over end till mixed. Once mixed, fill up you trays, cover with foil, poke holes add micro-pore tape. Let em sit for about a week or so till 100% colonized, case em if thats your thing. Put em in the fc and your good to go.

It is really friggin' weird how much myc loves coir and how much other stuff seems to hate it. Coir almost never contaminates on it's own. I've left it moist in a plastic bag or bucket innumerable times - never had it go green or get cobweb. I've had friggin' sawdust and wood chips grow nasties when left moist in a plastic bag...but never coir. It is almost like there is an antibiotic of some kind involved, yet mushroom myc rips through it very quickly. If it does have antibiotic properties, those properties are quite oddly selective. I love coir, don't get me wrong, but it is really weird that it works so well for growing mushrooms (and MJ). Damn, you were posting while I was editing...good lookin' tray there, Boots!
