can't keep em dry?!?

After a recent harvest swim died his harvest with a fan then finished them off with some damp rid till cracker dry. The problem is that they don't stay dried. After putting them into a ziploc bag with a packet of silica gel they soon become moist again. What could be causing this??? Also if they absorb mouisture again will they soon go bad. Swim really dosent wanna lose all this time and effort to this so any advice would be great. Thanks.

if there getting moist again its probably because theyre not completely dry. dry em out a bit longer with the fan before you put em in with the damp rid.

Use PO Tyvek or a coffee filter to make a little envelope full of damp rid.

Storing in a glass jar with a tightly fitting lid is better than storing in a Ziploc.

Do you crack your fruits open before drying? I've had mine appear to be cracker dry, but the inside is still a bit damp. I like to crack em a bit and let em sit in front of the fan on a screen for 4-5 days, turning them over every day.

??

would tyvek work for the envelope? from what i understood, tyvek doesnt allow moisture to pass. so wouldnt the tyvek stop moisture from shrooms from getting inside to gel? like it keeps moisture in fc? im certainly nowhere near sure of this... just thinking of what ive read thru in past mos. and throwing in my .02

Tyvek definitely passes water vapor.

That is why you can't use Tyvek as a lid on a grain jar (just a small hole covered with Tyvek). Grains in a jar with a Tyvek lid will dry out before they colonize completely.

It is indeed my bad for not being clear. The damp rid is in the same bag, but the damp rid is not touching the items and is wrapped in a paper towel. and actually sitting underneath a paper plate that the items are on... in a ziplock double seal bag.

And the tyvek pouch idea is pure genius.

Due to the high humidity level of my region I've taken to drying and vacuum sealing any extra portions to prevent reabsorbtion of moisture. I've had some for several years that still pack the same punch and provide emergency spores if need be. Though for that which is soon to be partaken I'd recommend a pill press as when reduced to a fine particulate it is quite easy to be sure of a moisture free stock.

We go to the local costco/hellmart/shoestore and raid the shoe boxes of silica gel packets. 2 packs in with an 8th has proven effective. I believe that the pouches are accually made from Tyvek
