![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Need some helpwith cardboard prep
I was looking through the vaults and stumbled across the cardboard cloning tek today. I don't have any growing equipment ATM, but I decided I wanted to try this next time I do. I figured going ahead and prepping a few is damn near free and will help me out later. They kept falling apart, though. This is the process I used: Ran hot water over the squares for maybe 5 seconds. The squares were 4 ribs wide and maybe 1.5 times as long. Pulled off 1 of the flat layers, exposing the ribs inside. Put them in a cup with a little water, maybe 75-100 ml total. Microwaved for about 3 minutes before they completely separated. Any ideas? I followed it as closely as I could, but it didn't work. Could somebody maybe post step-by-step of their technique for it?

I put it under running hot water and start squeezing, as it rehydrates, it will become easier to squeeze. I separate both layers away from the correugated center layer and flatten it out in my tupperware. They are easy to judge moisture levels in as long as you don't take the layers apart first. After its rehydrated you can sterilize it if you want, but I never have, and they took over the cardboard before contaminates showed up.

Cool, sounds good. I was also wondering: would this work with just spores? I don't really see a reason why it wouldn't, but I figured I'd ask here. Somebody has had to have tried it already.

Yeah, it takes a long time to germinate since there is very little nutritional content. I saw it in Psilocybin Mushroom Handbook but I'm pretty sure they did it with azures, and I might have seen it somewhere here to...

Cardboard is very interesting. There's lots of different ways to use it. Here's one way to do some cloning with cardboard. http://forums.mycotopia.net/holding-...g-machine.html (Hyphaenation's Cardboard Cloning Machine) Basically a clean inner stem chunk on any clean / soaked / sterilized / pasteurized piece of cardboard will do it. Some of the things to watch for are: Use only clean cardboard Use the thick stuff ! Should have 2 fat layers of corrugate in there Soak and strip off outside paper layer Rinse the inner corrugated and let it drip dry (not to wet) Don't let the cardboard dry during colonization (a fine mister works well) I actually like to blend my cardboard after soaking it , then pour it through a strainer , drain and use in projects. The cardboard can be soaked in nutes like manure water , karo , potato etc. Another use for the above described cloning (in the link) is to make clone-slurry. To do that use a smaller sized jar with a slimmer mouth that has the same size mouth as your blender blade assembly. You let the cardboard disks colonize fully with the breather lid on. Then add clean water to 3/4 level in the jar. Next loosen the breather lid and get ready to swap the lid for the blender blade assembly. To clean the blender blade before-hand add boiling water to the blender and let it sit , or PC the assembly for a short time. When your ready swap the lid for the blender blade assembly and tighten it on the jar. Place the jar on the blender and pulse in quick bursts (don't over blend). Here's a couple pictures of the process. This was with a clone chunk not cardboard , but it's done the same. ![]() ![]() Now you have myceliated cardboard slurry water. You can use this to spawn projects. If you do a search on cardboard there are quite a few threads on the Topia to check out. Try typing "cardboard cloning" in the search field if you haven't already Best of luck

Also another simple idea for cardboard cloning is a "clone roll". ![]() You take the clean inner corrugated cardboard in strips about 2 to 3 inches wide and about the same long and pasteurize/sterilize them. Next you allow them to drain and cool and then inside a glovebox or clean environment add your inner stem chunks , roll them up so that there is at least 2 layers of cardboard. Lastly add a bread tie if you want so that the rolls stay closed and you can pick them up. Things to watch for: Colonize them at 70 - 83 F in the dark Use a vessel with a good breather hole covered with polyfil or tyvek Don't let them get dry , but even worse don't let them get over-wet Hold the roll by the tie and shake them off after misting This "TEK" (not a bonifide one) has potential. It works very good for edibles like Oysters etc , but can also work good for the likes of Cubensis. Especially with a good vigorous strain. I haven't had much chance to tweak this , but I do know it works. Feel free to take the idea and run with it ...

Dude, that's an awesome idea! I'll definitely try that. As I said, though, it'll be a good 6 months or more before I can give it a shot. Got in a tiny bit of legal trouble.

You're lucky that it was a tiny bit ![]() The rollup method like that did not work nearly as fast as laying it flat in a tupperware. This was with both cubensis and ovoids. That's just me though.
