cakes, trays? whatcha working with? Low on cash is my nick name ![]() There are several great inexpensive ideas in the vaults for fruiting chambers. But just to be real quick with a response and be real cheap, you can use a trash bag to fruit them in. Clear or white for best results. Just put the casing tray in or put the cakes in a tray. Looks kinda like those easter basket we use to get as a kid ![]() Just make sure you filter the air and give em some circulation, FAE. Check em a couple times a day at first to make sure your air isn't becoming stagnate. The options go on and on ranging from free to hundreds of dollars for chambers. Just remember key factors, humidity high, temps constant, air fresh, EVERY thing as sterile at you can be. Dont let your temps get too high or it make you air stagnate a bit faster. Keep em cool...70's Good luck!

The best and cheap is an oxymoron ![]() I'd just buy a tub from wal mart., Cost around 10-15 bucks. Make sure it is deep enough for the boomers to rise above the cake. Check to archive or vaults for specifics. Drilling holes, filter types, and care.

tubs are cheap at like walmart i think like 6 bucks for a 64QT steralite. throw some perlite on the bottom add a fish tank bubbler for RH and a lil FAE. if no perlite put just a thin layer of just water but keep it clean.fishtank bubbler is a big plus i think. masterplain88 |

Bubblers are neato for FAE, but if you're working on the cheap, all you need is a tub and some perlite. I've been doing this for almost a decade now, and that's still all I use. Time is free, and fancy equipment invariably fails when you're least expecting it... ![]() soliver edit: the local dollar store usually has REALLY cheap tubs ... I used to grow cakes in plastic shoeboxes that were 3 for a dollar... the shrooms push against the top, then grow sideways, but they still grow. Make sure to get a box that will fit your cakes with 6 inches to spare above the cake (about 12 inches is more than enough for perlite, cakes, and grow room, IME). If the box is too big for the amount of cakes you plan on growing, you'll have problems keeping the cakes moist... extra air saps your humidity, so plan ahead, and start small ![]() soliver |

Small translucent plastic bin with 1/2inch-1inch of moist Perlite across the entire bottom. The bin should have a reasonably tight fitting lid. The bin should be at least 12in-18in high. 3 times per day, take the lid off and fan the cakes. When ya get up, when ya get home, before you go to bed. If the walls of the bin are dry when you fan, mist them (the walls, not the cakes) until they are moist. The walls should always be moist. Even easier is invitro fruiting or fruiting in larger jars. A plastic cake plate with a domed lid makes a very nice home for four cakes: ![]() ![]() Manual fanning is a very good way to go, especially at first.

The casing on those cakes is 50:50 verm:coir. The little square boats they are sitting in are made from aluminum foil. The very bottom layer is 6 paper towels kept moist with a mister. NOT DRIPPING, just moist. Nothing but manual air exchange and misting the lid of the cake plate. This is the thread on using a cake plate for cakes: http://forums.mycotopia.net/grow-cha...upid-kiss.html (The $.49 terrarium – Keep It Simple, Stupid! (KISS)) I like simplicity and manual air exchange a LOT.
