These are just things that I had to learn the hard way: If you do the pillow-case method, make sure you have a towel or something between the bottom of the pot and the stove burner to keep the case from getting too hot. And after you let it drain for several hours, wring the living hell out of the pillow case to push out any excess moisture. The biggest trick is to make sure your poo/coir is at field capacity. If you even have to add a little extra vermic. or coir, do it. Overly wet substrate is one of the biggest causes of failure in my experiences. And 2 hours between 140 and 160 F has always worked for me. Good luck. |

As mentioned you can hang the pillowcase on a string. It will drip slowly and take overnight. When i'm wanting to do the batch the same day I like to set the pillowcase on a clean , wide board and then place another board on top and surf the water out by standing on it. Either way you have to let the batch completely cool before using it and it has to be field capacity which is only drops of water when you squeeze hard , not streams.

I back the 'surfing' method. Two paver stones with the pillowcase in between......squish,squish,squish and you're done Allow to cool prior to spawning.

Like about 2 years ago I used someone's TEK on stove top sterilization using quart jars on donkey poo and I had great success with it, I cannot find it. Can someone direct 'us' to that process?

i heat up a big pot of water to 170F, then put my pillow case with hpoo in a cooler and fill the cooler with the hot water. Put the lid on and leave it overnight. In the morning I use the surfing method with the cooler lid in the bathtub. sometimes after that if it still feels a bit damp i'll pour the hpoo out onto a clean dry towel n squeeze out a little more moisture. works great!
