Well, it's up to you whether or not you case that sub. It will fruit nicely without a casing layer as it is cubensis. To upload a picture, simply click on "manage attachments" in the "additional options" section of each post reply or thread starter. Then you can upload your pictures--just give it a minute to attach the pics. |

Looking good! I would say go ahead and start fruiting conditions. The main reason for casing a bulk sub is to try to have an even pinset, which ensures that the fruit all mature at the same time. This is different than a cake, which requires the casing for more moisture. But the extra moisture in a bulk is retained by the substrate itself so the casing is not as necessary.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It looks exactly like it should.... Good Job! I don't case mine either especially in larger tubs like that. It will fruit just fine without. Like MLB I have never personally seen larger yields being directly related to a casing layer.

The only time I will use a casing layer is if I am breaking up PF cakes into a tray and just fruiting like that with a casing layer, or if casing straight grains like popcorn or rye. I don't use these methods anymore but if I were to use a casing layer, that would be the only time other than growing Pan Cyans.

If the water droplets are big enough to dab with a paper towel without touching the sub, take care of 'em that way. Otherwise, they're not big enough to worry about. I've seen many subs fruit like magic, even with dew covering them. Also, In the subs I've seen, a lot of the excess moisture and all the droplets on the top of your tub will pretty well disappear once you start fruiting conditions. My $.02. Good luck! |

Nice. Just watch out for contams, because once fruiting starts, I have seen people have a hard time getting anything to colonize further, and anything left uncolonized stays that way till the tub is done. Don't be alarmed or anything, i've had huge sections (half-dollar size and a bit bigger) uncolonized for 2 months without contaminating, but the more you add that won't be colonized, the bigger risk you run. Doesn't sound like you did that, though, so I guess I'm just rambling on. Good luck, again! |

Oh yeah, you got knots like a mo-fo in there. You should be harvesting within the next five days...

Personally, casing for me depends on the season. In the Fall and Winter, humidity gets really low here, so it just makes things easier. In late Spring or Summer, it'd just be asking for problems.

70F is kind of chilly. That means maybe getting down into the 60s at night? Any way at all you could warm that area up a few degrees? If you get up to 75F, it would make a huge difference in the speed of growth. Myc generates heat as it grows. If you could just wrap a couple blankets around the tubs, it would help.

Nah. All my bulk subs have those fine water droplets across the surface.
