oh and the PC box said that it only held 24 half pint jars but I found otherwise. If you stack them in there tightly I found one can fit 32 in there without any of the jars touching the PC walls. I dont know about the regular half pint jars though.

She is a hypotangerine leopard gecko. Full grown and gorgeous as can be, her name is becky! She was a gift to my old lady for valentines day

I just had a little young'n die a couple of weeks ago due to impaction from the earlier owner. I am somewhat of a animal lover.

She is a perfect example of her species and a great gecko for the first time reptile owner. She does not need high uv specific lighting because she is nocturnal. She poops in the same place everytime, so clean up is easy. I have a pic of her, let me find it right quick. Not a perfect pic but I didnt want to hurt her eyes as they are very sensitive.

Thanks so much! I am actually pondering the thought of adding 120 invitro jars to the party! LMAO! Seriously though, they are great animals, they dont like to be held that much but Im sure you have gained patience through mycology. They do better living alone, imo. I will try and snap a couple of shots of her tomorrow when its light outside anyways. She has actually grown quite a bit since this pic was taken close to a year ago.

Thanks guys and gals! This thread has definitely gained some interest around mycotopia! Thats for sure! I can't wait to show you guys the harvest off of these cakes. Its gonna be insane if the spores are any count and by the looks of it, they are. The Brazilian and the Z strain are neck and neck as far as growth goes. I hope to get some kick ass monsters to clone. Im looking for that perfect monster who pops up first, is in a huge cluster, and po po potent as FUCK! He will be cloned 9er style and shot up directly in the next batch of cakes and a couple of nice liquid cultures. I love this stuff! I can't wait until its harvest time, after the second flush these are going into a bin full of water to get dunked and then into a big, what I like to call, garbage bin.

no need for an expensive drill for holes on a montub. i use a wood carving iron and cut thru it with the thin attachment it came with. just a suggestion cause u're really gonna like monotubs if u work with em.........of cause when i first started this i pictured wat u have......10 FC stacked like that ....cool cool.i never could get jars to start on time or finish at same time..... i like ur setup

Thanks guys! I am going to move up to bulk teks one of these days. I have done them before but I really love the pf tek, as you can see. I have the method perfected down to a science and it feels right when I do it. I am going to get some spawn bags soon and try to rock a couple of those. I hate to drill holes in my bins but it seems as though monotubs are the way to go. I have seen several of eatualives bins and they "almost" look photoshop'd HAHA but thats just his amazing skills at play. I will give it a shot after then next batch is done. I promise! I have a tried and true tek for WBS jars and I can always toy around with some dung and worm poo teks. I would like to find a source for some salt free coir so I can mess around with that as well. To be honest I dont like pasteurizing things. I would love to be able to sterilize all of any future prospective substrates. So Im thinking that worm castings might be the way to go. Opinions?

Oh and btw we should see some amazing fruit shots here soon, Im thinking a week and a half to two weeks.

If you are interested in castings, check out Buckaroo Banzai's work. He doesn't like pasteurizing either (which I don't really understand, but to each his/her own), and he sterilizes his bulk mixes. Just click on any of his posts on The Banzai Institute.

Im starting to get a little nervous now, the cake have been birthed for exactly one week now, and only one pin has formed. Dont get me wrong the cakes are exploding with hyphal knots but no babies have formed. Its too funny to look at all of those bins, and all of those cakes, and only see ONE mushroom growing. LOL!!! They were knocked up on the 25th of sept, and were exposed to light for a week invitro before birthing, usually I have pins within the first week. I need these to grow like, pronto to meet the halloween deadline. Im actually starting to get impatient and a little pissed at this moment. I know I know patience Patience...

I inoculated some cakes on the 19th of September and I just got the first pins on three of the cakes around the 16 of October. You should have started earlier if you wanted a ton of shrooms for halloween. You'll definitely have a few but probably not enough for a party of more than three people (depending on how much they eat). The fates may smile upon you and a bunch of pins might form in the next couple of days. But either way you'll have an enormous amount of mush in November.

Nah, he has time. Pinning will usually kick off three to four weeks past inoculation. From tiny pins to big fruits, it takes 7 or 8 days. Heck, even if you got one big fruit off each cake, that would be a bunch of tripping.

Omni! Thanks for stopping by the thread. Things are really looking up now. I am just freaking out because I had a strain of Brazilians that pinned within three days of being birthed. It was the absolute fastest thing I've ever seen, EVERY jar from multispore was fully colonized within 8 days with that strain. I dont know who the vendor was because it was a gift but it was insane! Im sure I will have at least 200 grams before halloween. I am going to have a contest for prints, guessing the entire weight, both second flush and first flush. There will be a ton of prints up for grabs with so why not?

I might do one more pf cake run to try and find some worthy genetics. I have been apprehensive to cut holes in my bins, but with your help I will pretty much do anything you say as I have the utmost respect for your work! This has always been kind of novel for me, ya know, the pf tek. I've always loved the speed of it personally. Plus the ability to remove contamed cakes one by one, as opposed to tossing out whole bins. I have two questions for you, one what is the fastest one can achieve actual fruits with monotub/ bulk teks? I planning on using coir, verm, castings, and maybe some grain tossed in for good measure. Oh btw you guys, I have come to the conclusion that my place is horrible for growing fungus. Every window is right underneath an air vent for the hvac system. The closet it right next to main return for the hvac and it seems like no matter where I go or what I do I cant escape it, its really hard to find a decent spot to grow in the shit hole apartment. I dont know what to fucking do about it. I guess I am in it for the long haul and well see how it goes. I hate this place and cant wait until I move the fuck outta here.

so test one bin out by cutting the holes. keep the rest filled with pf cakes till you get it down. that way you only risk one bin.

oh wow. yeah its probably been that long since i grew out any pans haha. i had one fruit in my last forage but i didn't really give it my all. was too busy at the time to deal with em.

my contam rates are very little. i did have a huge recent trich outbreak but thats usually one of those every 2 to 3 year storms. does happen. but not often.

usually with corn grain i get no contams. with wbs its around 3% but ive also had the most trich outbreaks using wbs grain in the past or straw.

in bins every 60 or so i get one contam in the substrate prior to full colonization. i say 1 in 20 or so. but often enough it might be 1 in 20 of every 3-20 batches of bins. so its a real low percentage of contams on substrate beds. usually the contams will occur after a flush, dunk or opening a bin. usually never contams prior to colonization. this year. ive had one bin contam prior to 100% colonization. and that bin was using a heavy coffee substrate. most of my contams have been in grain jars. overly cooked or the moisture content wasn't right. sometimes its wetspot or trich. ive really only had that one huge outbreak of trich. otherwise its just a jar here or there.

so recently ive eliminated the factors of my contams. 1) straw 2) wbs grain and now everything is perfect.

Glad to hear about the pinning. I figured it would happen, and you should have plenty for Halloween.

As far as going bulk, I like popcorn as a spawn--the big kernels are easy to spot contams on--and the prep is very easy. BRF cakes work, too, of course.

I would suggest trying the sandbag tek to dip your feet into bulk growing. It is invitro, and you can make the bags as big or small as you want. You can do the same thing with tubs or trays as well. I guess I am just pimpin' invitro teks.

Yep I have to agree with you eats, my friend says, pop corn has been the majic bean for them too. Out of three wbs bulk trys, two didn't make it past the spawn before contams got them, they got one fruit from the one surviving wbs tray, then it triched out them also.

They said the PF cakes worked with min contams, but didn't yeld half of what the popcorn (BB Nuggz) did. And they relayed to me that so far they have had no contams with the popcorn, (unlike wbs, and pf cakes) they are preparing for the second dunk as we speak. So far they said the BB Nuggz, after the 1st dunk 4-5"x7" mini popcorn tubs have produced 6 or 7 26 gram single fruits (wet) and as an average the others weighed in at about 18 to 20 gram each and have netted 2.5 oz of dried edibles so far.

They were nocced up on the 13Th of Sep, and have been fruiting since the 6th of oct.

right on man. missed that. I have a normal leo gecko and two chinese water dragons. Prefer the dragons to the gecko because there more active and vicious. it can be cool to see the leopard stalk the crickets does yours twitch its tail before attack to.

Great tips EatU! Thanks for the info my friend! I will start off with a couple of bins and then go from there my friend! You da man bubba! Thanks everyone else. although I saw plenty of condensation on the walls of the FC I am under the impression that there was not 100% humidity in there. So what I did was line the top of the FC with plastic garbage bags and then the top was put on after that. I just woke up and looked and things "seem" a lot more humid, more condensation on the walls, like a very fine mist. Im hoping that things take a turn for the better but it appears as though the 1st flush will be crap, hence a complete fucking disaster in my eyes.

But I am an optimist and I believe that these cakes are strong and will bounce back! Pics will still be posted for the first flush as soon as I can really say that I have a "flush" things are going so fucking slow at this point...

I should have done harvested the first flush in my mind...

Oh and unless ralphsters Brazilians show me something special on the second flush then the spores will be going back into the fridge or the trash can. I was expecting so much form them. but I guess its a little too early to tell. The humidity is fine in the bins but I am still not impressed with what I am seeing from either strain as of now. The z strain is show up. Fruits are popping up on the z cakes but I no real clusters to speak of, the rhizomorphic mycelium is gorgeous to look at, and its stretching out in all directions, so I know the humidity is high enough and has been for a while BUT I was expecting so much more from them. I am going to hold out hope for a monstrous second flush though. I am fanning and spraying anywhere from 2-3 times daily with good, fresh water. Nothing is showing signs of any sort of contam, so that is a good thing. They are gettin natural sunlight, diffused of course. I have not over watered the cakes, but the double end casing does stay moist all of the time. Sheesh, it is time to move on the some monotubs with a cloned specimen. I hope something pops up worth cloning soon. I am ready to get this second batch in the incubator. END RANT...LOL

If you do Ralph's Brazillian invitro, let me know how it goes. I got a syringe of them spores laying around. I might break out the shelf I built that holds 13x13 1/2 pint WM jars in the near future. (That's right, 169 jars). I've only done Texas invitro. They were hella dense, can store two ounces in a qt jar as opposed to one ounce per qt from bulk trays. Pumped out 5+ flushes in 3 months.

To be honest, at this point, in the first flush, I am SUPER disappointed in the brazilians from ralph. Not nagging on ralph because Im sure there are many factors that are into play, but the z's are kicking the brazilians ass in ever aspect. The fruit thusfar from the brazilians are pitiful in both size and numbers. I wish I would have never picked this strain to be honest. I have seen better flushes of pf aborts than what Im getting out of the brazilians. Time will tell though.

Lazlo I will get some shots from inside the brazilian tubs tonight to show you guys! In the meantime here are a couple of shots of a harvest of three cakes from this morning, strain is Z btw! Oh and lazlo I will start fanning three times a day and see how that works out for me. I usually only fan twice daily but I am going to start fanning once in the middle of the dark period to see if that gets me anywhere better. Thanks for the advice and I will try it out. The brazilians are starting to look a little better but they are WAY behind the z strain in every aspect IMO. Both strains were treated the exact same way, in every aspect. Let us know about the potency of the Z strain. A FOAF (no shit, I don't know the guy but do know his friend) grew some Z's, and the potency lacked big time and my Amazonian blew his mind.

Thanks MLB! They are coming along just fine, I wish I would have done 120 Z's as opposed to 60 of each though. The brazilians are super small this flush. The largest fruit from them has been around 3-4 inches. They are gorgeous mushrooms, the Brazilians, but they are small this flush for some reason. There are many factors to take into account, maybe they dont like the substrate, maybe they like a lower RH, maybe higher. I have to rule out a few things I guess before I can go slamming the strain. I have yet to see a monster from them though. Nothing worth cloning atm.

Heisen, there are many factors that come into play with potency IMO. Substrate, flush, plus they may have cloned a less than par fruit with low potency. They may have dried it improperly at a high temp. Who knows but I will report back on the potency as soon as they are consumed! Promise! Thanks for stopping by the thread!

If you stack them in there tightly I found one can fit 32 in there without any of the jars touching the PC walls. I dont know about the regular half pint jars though.

I can't wait to show you guys the harvest off of these cakes. Its gonna be insane if the spores are any count and by the looks of it, they are. The Brazilian and the Z strain are neck and neck as far as growth goes. I hope to get some kick ass monsters to clone. Im looking for that perfect monster who pops up first, is in a huge cluster, and po po potent as FUCK! He will be cloned 9er style and shot up directly in the next batch of cakes and a couple of nice liquid cultures. I love this stuff! I can't wait until its harvest time, after the second flush these are going into a bin full of water to get dunked and then into a big, what I like to call, garbage bin.

I have the method perfected down to a science and it feels right when I do it. I am going to get some spawn bags soon and try to rock a couple of those. I hate to drill holes in my bins but it seems as though monotubs are the way to go. I have seen several of eatualives bins and they "almost" look photoshop'd HAHA but thats just his amazing skills at play. I will give it a shot after then next batch is done. I promise! I have a tried and true tek for WBS jars and I can always toy around with some dung and worm poo teks. I would like to find a source for some salt free coir so I can mess around with that as well. To be honest I dont like pasteurizing things. I would love to be able to sterilize all of any future prospective substrates. So Im thinking that worm castings might be the way to go. Opinions? Oh and btw we should see some amazing fruit shots here soon, Im thinking a week and a half to two weeks. Weeeeeee!!

Dont get me wrong the cakes are exploding with hyphal knots but no babies have formed. Its too funny to look at all of those bins, and all of those cakes, and only see ONE mushroom growing. LOL!!! They were knocked up on the 25th of sept, and were exposed to light for a week invitro before birthing, usually I have pins within the first week. I need these to grow like, pronto to meet the halloween deadline. Im actually starting to get impatient and a little pissed at this moment. I know I know patience Patience...

You should have started earlier if you wanted a ton of shrooms for halloween. You'll definitely have a few but probably not enough for a party of more than three people (depending on how much they eat). The fates may smile upon you and a bunch of pins might form in the next couple of days. From tiny pins to big fruits, it takes 7 or 8 days. Heck, even if you got one big fruit off each cake, that would be a bunch of tripping. Good vibes are many, many pins!

I am just freaking out because I had a strain of Brazilians that pinned within three days of being birthed. It was the absolute fastest thing I've ever seen, EVERY jar from multispore was fully colonized within 8 days with that strain. I dont know who the vendor was because it was a gift but it was insane! Im sure I will have at least 200 grams before halloween. I am going to have a contest for prints, guessing the entire weight, both second flush and first flush. There will be a ton of prints up for grabs with so why not? Cope! I have two questions for you, one what is the fastest one can achieve actual fruits with monotub/ bulk teks? I planning on using coir, verm, castings, and maybe some grain tossed in for good measure. (all sterilized btw) I know strain, environmental conditions, temps, and light all have a factor, but if all are ideal, how fast can I see fruit from knocking up grain jars until Im picking fruit. Two, how are your contam rates my friend? PS I still have a pan print you gave me back in 2003 LOL

Oh btw you guys, I have come to the conclusion that my place is horrible for growing fungus. Every window is right underneath an air vent for the hvac system. The closet it right next to main return for the hvac and it seems like no matter where I go or what I do I cant escape it, its really hard to find a decent spot to grow in the shit hole apartment. I dont know what to fucking do about it. I guess I am in it for the long haul and well see how it goes. I hate this place and cant wait until I move the fuck outta here.

As far as going bulk, I like popcorn as a spawn--the big kernels are easy to spot contams on--and the prep is very easy. BRF cakes work, too, of course. I would suggest trying the sandbag tek to dip your feet into bulk growing. It is invitro, and you can make the bags as big or small as you want. You can do the same thing with tubs or trays as well. I guess I am just pimpin' invitro teks. I look forward to your pictures and your contests.

Thanks everyone else. although I saw plenty of condensation on the walls of the FC I am under the impression that there was not 100% humidity in there. So what I did was line the top of the FC with plastic garbage bags and then the top was put on after that. I just woke up and looked and things "seem" a lot more humid, more condensation on the walls, like a very fine mist. Im hoping that things take a turn for the better but it appears as though the 1st flush will be crap, hence a complete fucking disaster in my eyes. But I am an optimist and I believe that these cakes are strong and will bounce back! Pics will still be posted for the first flush as soon as I can really say that I have a "flush" things are going so fucking slow at this point... I should have done harvested the first flush in my mind...

Join Date: Sep 2009 Posts: 250	Oh and unless ralphsters Brazilians show me something special on the second flush then the spores will be going back into the fridge or the trash can. I was expecting so much form them. but I guess its a little too early to tell. The humidity is fine in the bins but I am still not impressed with what I am seeing from either strain as of now. The z strain is show up. Fruits are popping up on the z cakes but I no real clusters to speak of, the rhizomorphic mycelium is gorgeous to look at, and its stretching out in all directions, so I know the humidity is high enough and has been for a while BUT I was expecting so much more from them. I am going to hold out hope for a monstrous second flush though. I am fanning and spraying anywhere from 2-3 times daily with good, fresh water. Nothing is showing signs of any sort of contam, so that is a good thing. They are gettin natural sunlight, diffused of course. I have not over watered the cakes, but the double end casing does stay moist all of the time. Sheesh, it is time to move on the some monotubs with a cloned specimen. I hope something pops up worth cloning soon. I am ready to get this second batch in the incubator. END RANT...LOL
