![]() | My first sandbag tek
Momma would be so proud, but Daddy would kick me out if he ever found the bags. Therefore, I decided to go with something that's invitro. Unfortunately for me, I'm also sort of a greedy pig, so I needed something that is rumored to have a high yield. So I decided on sandbags. The sandbag tek is awesome, though there are plenty of parts of it that aren't good for city or even suburban life. I just am not in a place where poo is saved. There were also a few less intense issues, but I think overall I managed to put together a list of items that any half assed city slicker can get his hands on. I couldn't get gusseted bags, so I used regular plastic bags with the corners tied off. I couldn't get manure and straw, so I used half straw pellets and half coir. It created a really thick goop which I decided to leave right on the edge of too dry. There's definitely water in there, it just isn't enough to drip out unless I really squeeze. Everything seemed fine, except I was just filling out my last little bag with a hole with poly in it (by the way, do NOT do the little cross stuffed with poly. Cut a little hole by bunching up the material, then surround it with scotch tape so it can handle the extra force of movement. I had one or two of my cheap bags absolutely tear in half.) when I noticed the stuff looked nothing like sand. Gentlemen, we of the poly bag field are experts in the dirt bag. I plan on adding pictures here. Not at first, as there's nothing to see except for putting it together and all of that and I did all of that before I realized "hey, I should be taking pics of this..." I did have one question. When I was mixing together all of my goop, I wore gloves covered in H2O2 as I normally do when working. I also took a pair of old underwear (they were clean!) and I put it over my mouth as a mask. But, SOMEHOW, a drop of sweat fell off of me into the goop. Is that going to contam the whole operation? If so, turn up next week for some of the best bright green pics you've ever seen!

I use 2.5 gallon heavy-duty ziplocks for bags and poke small holes with a knife and expand with my thumb to about the size of a quarter. Coir by itself would work for the bulk, but I have not used straw pellets. Good luck, and I hope to see some pictures. |

Well, it's possible the sweat contam'd your experiment, but we'll never know until the green shows it's ugly head... I suppose it depends on how clean you were before starting, what was on your face, etc., etc... Hopefully your myc will take over before the sweat devils! ![]() luck, soliver |

Yeah, no worries I'm growing in trash bags in my room. There's no real smell to it as I'm not using any poo (is this a stereotype? Am I wrong about poo? I would hate for people to think I'm a poo-ist. In fact, I would hate to ever have to think the word poo-ist again.) As far as being clean goes, I took a shower and stuff right before I did the mushrooms so I think I should be good there. I felt absolutely retarded! My final note is that, looking at my bags, one day has made no difference. As soon as mycelium begins to grow I'll post some pics. |

![]() ![]() | I know that sour apple smell is bacterial contamination. But by the dates on your post its only been a few days and I dont know if that's enough time for a bacterial contam to set it. As for the myc how much spawn did you mix in the bag. The more spawn you use the faster the bag will colonize helping the myc to beat out the contams.
