spent cakes?

hey all,
I was wondering what would be the best thing to do with spent cakes. I heard that you could crumble them up and sort of bury them in more pasteurized substrate for casing. Is this possible? I couldn't find anything in the forums.

Bury them outside in a compost pile, and you might get a few more shrooms. Mycelium ages quickly, so it would be much better to use fresh mycelium for spawn.

My friend has taken contaminated cakes and put them outside in a hole with some dung and straw. Got about 7g out of a cake that would have been a waste. This time of the season probably is not very prime though unless you live in a very southern state.
