Mushrooms growing in the bottom of the tub?

So, what should be done about a mushroom growing in the bottom of a dub tub? It got a lot of side pinning, and most of them are pointing up, at least, but one is just going straight down and curling under the sub, lifting it up a little. It's duct taped up to the polyfill holes, but I guess just one layer wasn't enough.

On a good note, though, if these weren't a PE variation (PE6), I'd probably have close to a full canopy.

It's messy to pick those. I always try to carefully dig them out. Did you black out the sides and bottom of the tub?

Yeah, it kinda sucks. The base is at the bottom of the sub, too. I've had side pinning before, but this is bullshit.

Yep, with duct tape. Maybe I should have used 2 layers?

It's ductaped up to the polifil holes. Where your sub floats, just wait until you dunk. When your bulk floats up just pull the mushroom off. Last time I had side pins also, I just took an alcohol sterilized butter knife and used it like a wedge to get the sub up out of the tub. You can also put your hand under a hardback book with a big ziplock bag around it and flip it upside down. That way your sub stays supported and doesn't break and you don't have to touch it with your hand.

Not a bad idea.

I wouldn't even bother. They still grow just fine, they just look a little flat on one side.

I'd be worried about the weight of the sub beating the hell out of pins/knots for the second flush.

I have found a black plastic bag works better for me, about a 30 gallon size. Unless the tub is really huge, you can just lay it in the bottom. Read Eatyualive's post in this thread, which is a killer illustration:

I just get worried about pooling moisture in a bag, which is why I chose not to use one. Maybe I'll duct tape one to the outside of the tub.

Pure Madness LEVEL +10 - IN GOOD STANDING
Bags all the way it makes everything easier and cleaner. When the sub is spent just remove bag, tie, and toss.

Yeah black plastic garbage bags all the way for me. Helps with the pooling of water as well (one of the reasons they are used).

I would have probably used contractor bag which is thicker, or a couple bags to block the light...

one of the reasons I don't use tin foil pans (besides the holes) is that light seems to bounce to the bottom creating mushies that are hard to get to...
i assume the same thing with clear tubs.

Well, it worked out fine. I had so much side pinning that they pushed the tub back enough that I could get to it. It took a little chunk of my sub with it, but not much, and I just patched it with some verm.

This project is actually turning out really, really well. I'm getting exactly what I want out of PE6 - Texan size (they're still small, but I only have about 1.5 inches of substrate) and open caps that drop spores with super meaty stems. Definitely good clone material.
