Hooray, There are finally pins showing!! Yippee..... These have been in the F.C since the wild season finished. Inside, and outside. Now they've been outside for about 6 weeks at least. About 2.5- 3 months maybe in total.. Temps are still 8- 18 deg C. And humidity between 70-85% outside. They are brf cakes spawned to pine bleached pine chips, cased with 50/50 verm/cactus soil. They dried out several times.. and needed resoaking.. have had flies munching on 'em.. thought they were just gonna mould over, until all of a sudden- Voila! I intend to share many more pics as we go, but need to recharge the camera batteries right now- |

Nice, we don't see too many subaeruginosa grows around here. Did the spores originate from Australia or New Zealand? http://forums.mycotopia.net/exotic-m...eruginosa.html (Psilocybe subaeruginosa)

Thanks guys, they're Aussie shrooms- Originating from the Capital, itself ![]() First pinset saw about 20 pins- this is probably about the best i've done so far even with mulitspore cubes. So, im rather happy. They're on average only as large as have been in found in the surrounding wild- slightly dissapointing, but I know the potency wont be. Will have to upload more pics soon, when my net connexn is faster again |

Thanks Waylit, when the time comes, the rue will be enjoyed along with them. Say, I don't spose you have any tricks for keeping em hyrdated? They'll definitely recieve a thicker casing layer next time, and most probably some leaves in the mix- but yeah, they end to dry out a lot and dont seem to hold much water with the woodchip.. |

Hey ShinobiFeather! Very beautiful mushrooms! ![]() I don't know if this can be of help. Some time ago some of my pan trays were drying out as they had just started to pin and fruit, and I managed to water without directly flooding the shrooms while it was in the FC. If you are able to drain the water after an hour or two without harming the substrate (substrate falling off etc) then I don't think it could hurt. If you can't tilt the tray without risking damage maybe just punch a hole in the side at the bottom. My reservations are/were mostly for fast fruiters like pans, I think this might be good for woodlovers as long as it's done with moderation (not every other day). I did it again just yesterday for another tray of pans, where I didn't care to dunk, or mist in the FC. However, better wait for an OK or NAY from one of the experts. Not much else about it, but here is were I wrote a bit when I first tried. http://forums.mycotopia.net/fungi-gr...-while-fc.html (Tray watering while in FC)

Thanks Om Shanti, They're quite hardy on pine chips. They've actually been getting a 'water' each day or 2. They'll get a good spray wherever looks dry, and each 2-3 days they NEED a resoak. Even in cold temps, in a F.C they dry out so quickly! I really shoulda took my own advice and cased them with Acacia leaves. There's another tray- I may just do that with those, unless they pin soon. Maybe i'l grow a mighty monster ready for next year. I've got a spare wheely bin somewhere.. |
