![]() | Any advice for a first timer????
Hoping someone will be able to offer a little advice if possible. Here is what happened: a bunch of quart jars of rye grain were inoculated and colonized with mycellium. After that they were transferred to 9x13 cake pans with a casing layer of coco coir on the bottom, all around the sides, and on top. Next they were put back into the darkness for about another week. There is quite a bit of white showing on the tops some of them are completely white and completely solid cakes. They have been out of the darkness for 7 to 14 days and there is no pinning going on so has something been done wrong? There are short clear plastic bins that perfectly hold 3 of the cake pans and there are three of the pans in each tub. The tempature is around 70f and the reletive humidity is above 90%. At 8am the lights are turned on and the lids are removed from the tubs for air exchange, the lights go off fairly late (around 11pm), the lids are removed once in the morning, once at night, and once at mid day. some of the pans are getting fuzzy around the edges and on top but there are no pins. There are a few little white things that look kinda like feathers kind of conical in shape. Any help please would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Topia friend. Sounds like your doing things right. Patience is a virtue when growing mushies. I have my best action with cubies when the temp is around 80- 85 F.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Be very sterile
in all your actions, ie: Ousting the air, no heater/furnace on, make sure your body is clean, wash hands before each action, use ISO straight and with H20 in atomizers....I find a glovebox and being very cautious and sterile in all steps 'fail proof'. Greatest luck with your project!

I think you probally got alot of overlay and what are you using for humidity and how often are they being fanned, Casings need to be fanned a great deal they require alot of fresh air, Ya know its not required to case a cubie man, actually IMO they do better without a casing layer especially for a first timer, if they haen't begun to pin in another week or so then I would say remove the casing layer dunk and refruit. You must fan that casing layer alot like 5 to 6 times a day, and how thick is the mycelium ontop the casing layer as you are suppsed to just barely see the mycelium poaking through, just a lil thin layer of white is supposed to be on the casing. The casing layer isn't supposed to have thick myclium all over it man, thats called overlay and will prevent pinning.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Fresh
fresh air exchange is critical ! Very critical. CO2 build up in a tub slows myc. growth. Light is a thing you can play with....I think.... I think just 1 hour or so is great....depending upon your light source you can raise the temp in your fruiting chamber and ruin you RH.....I am using a 30 year old flourescent bathroom light fixture....within 4 hours my TiT raises 4 degrees...which without FAE...leads to contaims..... Sounds like you will be fruitful and are doing your homework! Best of luck!
