Question Cake preservation???

Hey

I was wondering if there is a tested and successful way to save BRF cakes. Looking to do several bulk substrates but not all at once.

Thanks

You can refrigerate. How long are you looking to store?

You can save BRF cakes up to 2 months in the refrigerator from what I have read. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i have read that you can store them in the fridge also . but i think it would be better to store the dried product in a big ziplock then trying to store the mysilium. good luck . ..... . can any one tell me how to post a question :~?

Depends on the Forum for which the question pertains to, whether it's Fungi: Growing Edible Medicinal & Magic Mushrooms to say Bontanicals and etc... If you click on the Forum on the Mycotopia Web Forums page that you log onto you will see a list of the Forums and at the top left hand corner you can click on "New Thread" just make a title and than post your question.
Good Luck.

Thanks for all the great info guys. It depends on how many flushes of the bulk I get. I would do them all at once but only have a good setup for two bulk bins. I have six pint cakes so initially I was thinking a pint per bulk tub. From what I have read though I may just put two cakes in the first two tubs to speed things along then the last two on a second bulk round.

I store colonized bags of grain in the fridge all the time.
It's a good way to start 'sustainable supply'.
I've had spawn for at least 3 months that went on to colonize and fruit - no problems.
I keep mycelium on plates and at over one year - things start to degrade. The mycelium is less robust and the fruit production is less than stellar - but they'll still go!! If you plan to store over 3 months.....I would develop another strategy.

BTW, Brown Rice Flour and verm behaves exactly like grainspawn so you're good.
