Is it a health issue. Depends on what contam you have... if it's trich, then no. What about a warm shed. Sure. could it fruit. sometimes, depends a lot on the contam and how bad it is.. if so would the print be contamed ABSOLUTELY! Don't bother. As a general rule, I dump known contam'd substrates, but if you're desperate, well desperate times call for... could i eat it[/QUOTE] Again, depends, but yes (if it's trich) but DO be sure to wash it off as you would any veggie, etc. ![]() soliver |

I just made brf jars out of 4 different strains. I didn't have my PC at the time and should have waited. Instead I made up the used syringes cleaning the best I could. I guess between them or the jar cleaning I failed because all 4 developed trich. Normally i'd never do this but ... Since 3 of the strains I had no more spores for , and because the jars were more than 1/2 way colonized I decided to do the unthinkable. I took the jars outside , dumped them carefully and then removed a sizable chunk of the good colonized area of each. I put each in its own yogurt tub and marked for strain. Next I prepared some egg carton cardboard by soaking it and blending into a pulp. I strain that and squeeze out extra water and then place it in a yogurt tub for pressing. It gets compressed into a disc and surplus water is removed. On top of each cardboard pulp disc I put the colonized brf rescued-spawn. A few days later the mycelium is looking rhyzo and running into the cardboard nicely. Even after 24 hours the mycelium rebounded and was fluffy white. At the same time I got access to the PC and so I prepared some pucks out of coir , knotweed chips and egg carton cardboard. Pressed them and then PC'd them for 45 minutes @ 15 PSI. When they cooled I added the rescued brf spawn to bottom and top of each tub the pucks were in and down the insides where possible. A few days in the pucks are taking off. So to make a long story short ... You should'nt mess with contaminated jars , except in special and rare circumstances. In my case it was because I was about to lose these strains. Again i'm not recommending this course of action. Just relaying a experience.

If you do go to salvage don't try and re-inoculate more BRF or even grains with what you recover. They'll just re-contam. I'd recommend trying to spawn things that don't contam as easily as others such as cardboard and horse manure. For this use stay away from easily contamed mediums like straw , brf etc. Is your contam'd jar grain or brf ?

Goat is good. One of my first grows was on goat poo ... http://forums.mycotopia.net/magic-mu...highlight=goat (Incense Bag --Goat Poo/Straw Logs-Laundry Baskets- Growlog) Make sure its nice and dried out before using. Drain it really , really well after pasteurizing. Verm is better as a sub mixture than perlite. You should be fine taking some of the colonized popcorn and transferring it to the goat manure. What percentage colonization are the jars ?

i would say half way. one of the jars looks real bad today. I tossed it in the field and just left the jar outside at the moment. The other one is just has a couple green spots smaller then a .22. Gonna try to save some of it because i dont have anymore spores or money. New to the hobby, but im diggin it. I need to make a glovebox. I got by with out it twice with the oysters and once with these. but the last two times ive gotten contams so yeah. im stoned and rambling. thanks again. |

A real easy way to do this: Fill the blender 70 % with water Rip small chunks of the egg carton and add them to the water (half the carton per load) Put the lid on and hit the pulse button for about 5 seconds , it turns to pulp Pour that into a strainer and let it drain into a bowl Blend the other half egg carton Dump first load from stainer into a bowl , strain second blender load and add to bowl Now you have a bowl of egg carton pulp that is still very wet. Take a big double handful and start squeezing it over the sink. Squeeze it like you were making a tight snowball. Roll it around as you press it hardly. Soon most of the water is out. Now take a yogurt style plastic tub and place the freshly squeezed ball inside. Every good sized double handful of pulp squeezed will make a cardboard disc in a yogurt-syle tub, so make as many as you need. Once all the balls are in their tub squeeze/tamp them down with a hard object. You don't need to press to hard but definitely flatten and squeeze it down. If you have extra yogurt containers , place one inside the tub with the cardboard and flip it upside down. Press the tub from above and expel any extra water. Now all you have to do is go outside with the tubs. Dump your popcorn onto a piece of paper. Spoon clean white popcorn that is away from the contam spot into each tub (tablespoon each). Put a lid on the tub with a breather hole filled with polyfil and mark for strain. Colonize that in the dark at 80 F and check every couple days for growth. If it looks like its starting to dry out , mist it lightly. When its fully colonized add pasteurized manure to the tub and it will colonize from the cardboard. When thats finished pop the puck out of the tub and fruit it ...
