![]() | How does this mini tub casing look?
Hi, I wondered how this looked to you guys. The tubs are about 12 inches by 8 x 6 depth. I have the tubs resting in plastic bags which I fold over, but don't completely seal, I fan about three or four times a day. I have a very fine mister, is it okay to have little beads of water resting on the surface of the mycelium. appreciate your thoughts.

Looks very good to me! The small drops of water on top is no problem. I'm not sure if it's all water droplets or are there also some pins forming? Good luck! :-)

Thanks for the encouraging comments, years ago when I tried grain before this is where it all went wrong. nothing happening and the rye berry layer curling up like cheese in an old sandwich. I've mixed everything together with a thin casing layer. I don't know if the white fluffy blobs are a bad thing, I'm wondering if that there is too much moisture or humidity. |

You could have given it a couple more days to consolidate, but you look good. Humidity should be kept up by misting the chamber at least 4 times a day, and fanning often. Mist, then fan. Are you using a shotgun style fruiting chamber?

^^ Not always brother... I had a large chunk of fluffy whiteness in the top of a jar of wbs. Real soon after a good shake of the jar when about 85% that white fluffy goodness turned green. I thought it was myc all that time, but apparently mold can be white until it is stressed. Somebody could step in on this one and prob provide more info about it than me. And please by all means correct me if I am wrong. Because I am no where near being an expert about any of this nor do I claim to be... Just merely sharing one of my experiences...

im no expert but from what i see my fluffy myc turns out good. but i do remember one time i cased a 1pt jar of popcorn that had a lil extra fuzzy white and at the end of the first flush it turned green. but i think there could have been a nother factor there normally my white fluffy ones do fine. as for that bulk pic i woulda let it incubate for a few more days then birth it. masterplain88 |

Little beads of water won't hurt the myc in my experience. When you see them start to turn yellow I would dab them off at that point. What is your sub mix etc? Is that a casing layer? I don't mist my tubs at all ever and they do just fine. I would hold off on fresh air and misting if it is still colonizing. Let it do it's thing. If you give us more information we can tell you a little more.

Thanks for your comment about my avatar Leftover Salmon. I know what you mean about green mold being indistinguishable, but that's not what it is. I thought it might be a sign of too much humidity. I think I'm right in thinking that there aren't going to be any pins appearing in the white blobs, to me it just seems like overlay in waiting. I be looking at pictures of some other colonised casings and I've seen a huge number of large water droplets on the surface, I'm amazed I thought that was a total no-no as it suffocated the mycelium and caused overlay. I'm just going on the limited knowledge available to me. As for the substrate, It's just made up of plain peat-based potting compost for seedlings. I have another tub which is the same but with some worm castings added that's coming along really good. I'll post up a picture tomorrow. |

from what I have read here, that looks great! If it you do have it in the fruiting chamber, just be religious in your fresh air exchange ! Between FAE and the heat in your chamber could/should balance those droplets of water out. My friend has had that before and just did a lot of FAE to the point of almost no droplets left.... Please correct me if I am wrong.

. Here is an updated photo, it's a bit like a where's Wally but they are there. I have no real fruiting chamber as such, just that tub inside a white plastic bag with a top scrunched over. haven't bothered with heating, I think it's worth getting a fine mister they are very cheap.

That sub looks clean to me. And you got pins! ![]() ![]() ![]() As far as trich starting out white, it certainly can, but green will appear quickly. The poster who shook his jar and then got trich most likely had trich in hiding before that shake. The shake tells all tales, I guess. Good luck with the grow, Faith. |
