![]() | Self-healing injection sites for grow bags
What is a good product to use on poly grow bags for self-healing injections/inoculations? I have tried several kinds brands of silicone (RTV and non-RTV) and each one is really easy to just peel off the poly bags. These glues all work great when creating self-healing injection sites for jars, mostly because the glue is on both sides of the lid. I use 6 mil poly bags with filter patches.

you want to tape over the silicone after it sets. usually when applying silicone to plastic containers ive found that it just doesn’t want to stick either because of the warping that the heat does while ,or because of the smoothness of the surface. what i do with plastic jars is braise the surface with sandpaper then apply the silicone. then smudge the silicone so it has a wider surface of contact then pull it all back so there is nice big nipple in the middle where you are going to inject through. but you don’t want to be using sand paper on them bags so just use the tape. it works trust me silicone should be roughly a centimetre thick so as to provide the re sealing effect you desire. allso aquarium silicone is the best in my experience so far

I'll also try taping the silicone after it cures. Thank so much for the quick reply, Zodd.

I forgot to mention that I keep the bag sealed from before the PC until the first harvest.

I have now tried the post-PC silicone, cure, tape, inoculate, tape method to create a self-healing filter patch. It was easy to see where the silicon bump was under the tape, when I had to inoculate. Also the pin-hole left in the tape made it super easy to place a small piece of tape over that. Thanks for all of your suggestions!
