![]() | Blue oyster contam?
so heres my Blue oysters I started about 4 weeks ago, they seem ready to birth, but i just noticed some spots that are orange/redish I am worried they contamd. with that in mind I was thinking about going invetro with them so i could still try and fruit them and not worrie about infecting other projects I have going on. Thanks again everyone! |

really 4 weeks ago? usually they grow within a week for me. but your jars look good. id say they are ok. sometimes they spit out metabolic waste that is orange in color. usually this will happen if i leave the jars a week after full colonization with oysters. so 2 to 3 days after full colonization i either grain to grain transfer or stick the pf jars or master jars in the fridge. for blues its an orange like color or yellow at times. the pinks throw off a darker orange to pinkish color. its mycelial piss. once that thing is colonized, birth it. or g2g to grain. or spawn to a substrate and you should be fine.

Most oyster growers would use jar grown spawn to innoculate larger substrates like straw or newspaper etc. The last pic shows an uncolonized spot near the bottom. After four weeks the jar should be fully colonized. Invitro does'nt work well with oysters. They need alot of FAE. I would use those jars to spawn pasturized straw. It beats out alot of contams and should still fruit when given a chance.

that one jar wont fully colonize for whatever reason, ive been waiting till it fully develops before i do anything. my original idea was to try the newspaper tek since i have an abundance of it. I have silicone ports on my jars with a tyvek filter, is it possible that this caused the slower colonization? seems like there wouldnt be as much FAE with tyvek.

Hey freedum, did you knock it by agar, LC or MS? =] Looks good for me ![]() Just a little one question about that tek: Do you colonize the bag with newspaper and the spawn then you just do some holes on the bag and leave it to fruit? Without FC? Thanx

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I add the spawn to pasturized bags of straw. When the bag is fully colonized and showing premordium [yellowish lumps] i cut a small slit at those areas. I use a FC to grow them in due to their need for high humidy that i supply by frequent misting.
