From what I have read, they colonize about as fast as cubensis. I do know that Semper is not a woodlover--from what I have read it originated in Mexico and responds well to looser substrates (straw, peat casings)--so I don't know how it would respond to maple shavings. I am actually starting a few jars myself--1/2 pint millet/vermiculite jars--so this is a new teacher for me.

Check out this thread:
http://forums.mycotopia.net/photo-ga...emperviva.html (more notes on P. Semperviva)

And this one mentions rapid colonization on grain:

http://forums.mycotopia.net/photo-ga...e-mycobag.html (Psilocybe Semperviva - Multispore Mycobag)

Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

I didn't even know what Semperviva was until I read TCO's thread. He volunteered some spores to my cause, and I have been reading about it since. Frankly, there are only a handful of documented grows here, and I haven't found much anywhere else.

The idea that it can last almost a year just blows my mind. TCO suggested millet and vermiculite in a 1:2 ratio (as in the PF Tek). I PC'ed 6 jars early this morning and will inoculate either this evening or in the morning. I am hoping for some nice results, but this will be my first go-round. I have been told that Semper does not like dung. I am thinking of casing with coir, but straw is supposed to be the best for Semper.

I don't mean to jack your thread. Good luck with your grow, too!

Oh, man, I am glad I could help, and I hope we both have something to show for the work.
