![]() | Growing temperatures.
This is my first interdimensional hug for every member, especially for those who are always willing to help us: the young primordia which raises its head towards not only the comprehension and knowledge of the the FANTASTIC fifth kingdom, but also for the ultimate spiritual and trasecendental revelation. I live in Bogotá, Colombia, where tempratures oscilates between 55 - 62 Fahrenheit (60 its the average, a little far from the optimal 70-75 F). Althought, during my research I found that one important requisite for the vegetative mycelium to turn in a fruiting one is that temperatures in the fruiting stage are lower than from the incubating. I have fullfilled that requisite since my incubating's temp was 80-86 F and my fruiting temp is 55-62 F, but I am kind of worried partly beacuse I don't find the way to raise temps, partly beacuse I am a newby Mushie-Head. My concrete quuestions are: ¿what undesired effects can experiencie my BRF cake due to this temps besides a slow growth rate? ¿Which temps can causse thermal death to my BRF cake? I thank all this comunnity for your great support in this magical, scientifical and artistical adventure. I expect for answers. From Colombia, SIDDARTA. |

They will just grow slowly in that temeperature range. Maybe put your grow in a big cardboard box and wrap that in some towels. That should raise the temps a little. I am not sure of a cold temperature at which mycelium dies--colder than it would get in Colombia, I am sure. Welcome to Mycotopia! |

Thanks dude. I think I will have to practice more patience! Anxious for my capped teachers to join me. By the way, the thermal death issue is interesting. Hope somebody have info about death by cold or heat. This forum is awesome. A truly universal mycelium of ideas and infomation! |

mycellium can withstand being refrigerated for extended periods with no damage, so I doubt you need be concerned about the lower temperature threshold of thermal death. The upper limit is around 100 d. farenheit. If you can, place the babies near a TV, cable box, computer, refrigerator, hot water heater or other appliance that gives off heat to elevate the temperature slightly, it will help speed things up. good luck and be patient!

106F-107F will absolutely kill mycelia. Cakes should be 75F to start. Spores like a warmer temperature to "hatch" and start growing. They might not start at 60F. Cakes be grown at 60F but they will be very slow. Put a cardboard box on top of your computer monitor. Wrap the box in a blanket. Leave the monitor turned on all the time. Be sure to use a screen saver.
