minute rice is precooked. people say it has less nutes than reg rice, i'm not sure if it is enough to make a difference. as far as substituting perlite for verm goes: noway, not a chance. when i lived in fl verm was very difficult to find, only place i could ever find it was at Lowes. i'm not sure that all lowes carry it everywhere else, but try them. also try calling walmart or home depot. just call around, you should be able to find it some place. anyplace that has gardening supplies would be a good bet to call. goodluck man.

perlite is only good as a humidifier, not a resevoir. look up Home and Garden in the yellow pages and just call every place in the category and ask for verm. you may find some closer than you think. and stock up, its cheap. a twenty pound bag in my town is only like 12 bucks, and 20 lbs dry goes a long way. i suggest stocking up on perlite too, it is also cheap and you'll use a lot to humidify a big tub |
