![]() | My Pan Jars and some Q's
Hey all, This is my first attempt at Pan Cyans. I'm using waylit's tek in 1/2 pint jars. I am not sure when these jars will be fully colonized, so I have some pics of one of them. The mix is kinda dense because unfortunately the verm I have is way too fine. Will it get any more colonized? The myc seems to be every where, but it's not as thick in some areas. ![]() ![]() |

If you say there's myc everywhere then they should be good IMO. It's not so easy to see on the pics, in the first two it does appear there is a thin layer of myc even on the darker areas. But it's not so easy to see on the one showing the bottom of the jar. But huge variation in myc appearance in the same jar is very normal, as discussed in this thread: http://forums.mycotopia.net/exotic-m...dness-all.html (Pan Cyan Mycelium. The wierdness of it all!) If in doubt you could give it a few more days, to see if anything more happens. If it's done then birth it. How long did it colonize for now? Just my 2 cents. Good luck! ![]() p.s. what strain is it? and please post an update too!!

It is a strain called "space coast" from florida. I just emptied out one of the jars the got contaminated and it reinforced something I have been worrying about-- Since the mix is so dense, I dont think the myc is able to penetrate deeper to the middle of the jar. On the contam'ed jar the myc basically colonized all around the outside of the cake. It might fruit anyway, but I don't know. I'm thinking though that maybe it would be a good idea to break the cakes up and spawn to a small tray... Thanks for the reply, I'll definitely keep you updated. | |

You're getting pretty close. What date did you inoculate the jars?

Yes, if they only got around 3 weeks so far, then it's very likely they can colonize some more. What is the incubation temperature? I never heard of Space Coast, so that is very interesting to see. Great name for a strain btw :-)

Ok, I'll wait longer then update. I guess this will become a grow log then. Yeah I guess it means the space coast as in where they launch rockets from FLA. The vendor I purchased them from is good, the spores germinated really fast, but I am almost positive that they are hiding a liquid culture in their syringes, which are dyed black. I am nervous that this whole Pan experiment isn't going to work... It was discouraging to open up the contamed jar and see that it hadn't been colonized in the middle of the jar. I have had a lot of mycological setbacks (hah) recently but I hope this works out. Thanks so much for all the advice people! |
